Goes to show that aftermarket really isn't much stronger than the factory ones. Rather than replace the factory ones, just grind the lip off so they won't get snagged on rocks and they will serve just as well as the HD aftermarket.

I've gotta set of those also and the TORQUE value for ALL THE AXLE DIFF'S is--

-15ftlb first pass then 30ftlb final TORQUE

Good luck

Picked up these 3/8” plate steel diff covers from motobilt.com only $100 each. These things are insanely strong. We’re putting together a how to video and then a destruction video of the stock ones vs a motobilt one so we actually got 3 motobilt covers. 1 to try to destroy and 2 to actually use. You can see in the pics the difference in stock stamped steel vs the motobilt covers.

A little late to this thread but wanted to see your opinion on which would be more beneficial for someone looking to add diff protection: Install beefier front and rear diff covers or go with a diff skid plate like the one you added with the @Metalcloak skids? It seems like the diff skid plate would be an easier install and would just require that you remove the skid plate when you change the diff oil every 100k miles or so

The redesign on the Dana axles makes draining/changing the fluid SO EASY/NO MESS --and the MOTOBILT DIFF. COVERS ARE REALLY BEEFY !

How often should one be changing the diff fluid? I thought I saw 100k in the manual when I was looking...

Well, if you're using your jeep for OFF-ROAD/HD TOWING, or extended 4wd use--

Both FRONT/REAR DIFF/ FLUIDS should be changed at 40,000 miles, or 4 years---whichever comes first !

Good luck
