I am waiting patiently for my 2 door manual Willys to arrive So I can‘t do this myself. I am looking for the distance from the inside of the closed rear door to the back side of the front passenger seat. Front passenger seat slid all the way forward and seat back tilted fully forward. Back seat totally out of the picture. Otherwords, how long of 2x4 could you lay flat, up against the folded forward front seat and still close the back door. I will pay large sums of beer or money for this info! Hopefully its over 5’.

Thanks

I just measured on my 2023 2 door Willys, back seats removed. It definitely fits a 5' long 2x4. You could even fit a 6' long 2x4 depending on how high up the back of the passenger seat you put the other end.

It has to sit flat on the carpet. So 65” maybe?

If the rear seat is out, you could RECLINE the passenger seat and put lumber down in the footwell. I've taken home 8' sections of molding this way, but I still have my rear seat in place. Molding is a little more flexible than a 2x4. An 8' 2x4 is doable with the rear seat out and the end in the footwell, then angled towards the driver side rear corner.

I get 53" on the flat floor, but like others have said, you can get an 8 foot 2x4 in there if you're creative

Having to have it lay flat on the floor changes things. It's 48" from the center of the tailgate door to the base of the center console, and about 54" to the base of the passenger seat pulled forward. A 5' long 2x4 looks like it would just fit laying flat if you put it diagonally, but it would be close, unless you can do something like @TheFixer suggested.

I have no intention on hauling any lumber. The 2x4 reference is just to help explain the Measurement points I am looking for. It could be a length of pipe for all that matter.

Ah, I see now, I misinterpreted because I thought you needed to haul something of significant size. I gave max measurement because many times, someone realizes, "Uh oh, how will I get this (2x4", PVC pipe, rebar, Christmas tree, etc.) home?" This happens to me all the time - see examples below .

Last week, I took home a 6' section of wire shelving. It was raining, so I put it up on the dash, balanced across the top of the back seat, and held it in place. HD is only a few miles from my house, so while it wasn't the most convenient, I made it work. Larger items will fit, but you definitely have to be creative, especially if it's bad weather and you need to leave the roof in place.

I have a GMC 3500 for all y hauling needs. I have access to a large custom mat and trying to see if it will fit and lay flat. My hope was to use it to sleep in the 2 door laying on that mat with the seat pushed forward. Did that decades ago on a 2 week trip to Oregon in a 2 door Capri hatchback. Took a big tent but too tired the first night so did the same thing. Pushed the passenger seat forward then forward. Laid in the back. Never did set up the tent in 2 weeks!

I'm 5'5" and I slept this way 2 nights in mine on a 10 day trip. Not diagonal because my fridge is on one side and losing a few inches because of my tailgate table. I won't do it again. It is tight and you end up propped up partly on the back of the passenger seat. The 2 door seats are very finicky and after the second night, I couldn't get the seat to lock back in place. It eventually did a couple of days later after a lot of effort. You also have to get into the jeep from the passenger side door behind the seat on top of whatever bedding you have set up unless you install an interior latch on the tailgate.
