If you remove your muffler, where does the exhaust blow out?

What State doesn’t require a muffler to pass for an annual inspection sticker?
It's not a straight pipe from cats in most cases, but a straight from cats with integrated resonator and mufflers that take up far less space.

The tank mounts exactly opposite the primary tank and is shaped very similar to the main. It is a bit smaller, only 17 gallons. It was a direct bolt on.

The filler hose had to be cut and a t pipe put in to fill the aux. The install took me about 8 hours over a 2 day period.

I'll get some pics and post them.
So you did the install yourself? How experienced are you? I’ve looked at this tank, but the install labour price turned me off.

Yes, I did this myself.

I did sleep at a Holiday Inn prior to attempting:)

Seriously, I am not overly experienced. I have done 99.9% of all the work on my jeep. Only the regear was outsourced. The reason I do my work is so I know how it was done. I am the same way with my Motorhome. I am not afraid the dig in and ask questions..I find it lots of fun.

I do have a 2 post lift, and that made it much easier. It would be possible with floor jacks and stands. I did my Maximus 3 lift before I bought the 2 post.

The only part that was technical was the removal of the fill tube and cutting it. Measure twice, cut once.

You "can" cut without removing the filler tube, but it is metal and I don't know how to cut that without making sparks. All the videos show guys using rotory saws that don't make sparks, but mine makes lots of sparks, so I removed it.

Everything else is bolt in...very simple.

Any new ideas on this? I have the new Borla 2dr exhaust on the way and would love some expanded secure storage options.

Wanting the same if I do this, might just have to end up taking it to some local shop to plan out some kind of fabrication

I have the 2door JLR and would like to install an extra gas tank. I know they make one for the 2dr JLR but its not for the e-torque model given the location of the 48v battery. Is there a kit or has someone moved the 48V battery to the muffler deleted area in back? This would allow for that aux gas tank to be installed safely between the axles. I addition the 48V relocation to the back I would also like to install an air compressor back there.

I was going to put an air tank there, but then I discovered the storage tub, and thought it was the gas tank. Derp. Now that I know it's just the bottom of the storage tub, I still haven't found a good way to exploit the space. I think a deeper tub really would be about the best possible use. The tub itself wouldn't really support anything interesting, and it seems awkward to rig a way to mount anything under there.

It's just as well that I discovered the muffler delete will never pass inspection in the People's Socialist Republic of Virginia anyway, where the Enjoyment of Vehicle Operation is Strictly Prohibited in order to Promote the Greater Public Good™. I'm going back with a muffler, though one that will be less fugly and sound better than the stock trash can.

I just really, really, really hate the stock trash can.

I used a rough country muffler skid to house a compressor and 2 gallon tank for a while. I've since returned it back to stock though so that had to move.

I am running Rockhard skid plates. This tank fits above the rockhard skid plate lines. I was able to flip the rock hard fuel tank skid and put it on the aux tank side.
Omg, thank you for this info!

I was eyeballing that space that the muffler takes up and tried out the AFE Rock Basher exhaust that dumps out just in front of the rear axle. I really like the look of the jeep without the muffler and was looking forward to doing something with that space, but the Rock Basher was too loud for my old ears. Stock exhaust went back on after about 4 weeks. Anybody looking for a gently used AFE Rock Basher for a 2dr JL? ;)

The air horn thread got me thinking. I’m really considering eventually getting an air horn set up there and the smallest high capacity air compressor to air up to fit in that area. Muffler is long gone.
