Just curious what everyone considers a "must do" off-road upgrade before they hit the trails?

I have a million things I want to do like skids and rear bumper and front drive shaft and control arms... I've also been "upgrading" stuff just to find it created problems and had to remove it. I'm tired of wasting money and wondering where its best spent. I know, a subjective question.

I'm headed out to Colorado in a few weeks and trying to decide if there is anything I should order or get done before I go? Or just run it as is and see what happens.

Currently have a JLUR with 2" lift, 37's, upgraded steering, and winch. Am I good?

The JLUR rear steel bumpers are rather weak and bend easily. They have often caused damage to the body when bent. So if your have one think hard about upgrading it to one that has a more solid and thicker metal construction.

Also consider differential skids and upgraded diff covers. These seem to always take a beating.

What gears are you running? If your running the stock 4.10s I would add new gears to your list. If you have upgraded gears, you are pretty well ready to rock and roll..

Do you have any rubbing with a 2" lift and 37's?

Lower down the scale I bought a stock Sport and hit the trails in Colorado. My first purchase was a good pump to use after airing down. My next purchase will hopefully be better tires and then maybe some rock rails.

Regear is already in the works. Just can’t do before trip because of break-in junk. Was supposed to get them done in April but COVID. However, the 4.10s and the automatic aren’t horrible.

No rubbing. But I have BFG 37s which apparently aren’t a real 37 according to some.

You should be good for your trip.

I take a different stance on the build. It takes a larger sum of money to do the lift I want and 37's with proper wheels. I went the route of protection first. LoD Destroyer sliders are on order (6-8 week lead time), Metalcloak rear diff skid, steering stabilizer with relocation brackets and FAD skid installed. Next purchase is Metalcloak underbelly skids since they play well with the LoD sliders. As long as I'm protected underneath, I'll do my part by picking better lines, even if that means taking the bypass.

You will be fine... I have run most of the trails other than Poughkeepsie Gulch in Ouray area (including Black Bear) in a a 2017 stock JKUR.

Bring paper maps or GAIA maps along with you...

Add a block of foam under the skinny pedal to keep you from getting too crazy and you can just about climb Everest with that combo of yours
