Yes, I agree: XR has worked.

But part of the strong market response to XR has come from the fact that Jeep has starved us of significant off-road innovations over the last 25 years.

I’d argue XR is not even an “innovation”, but as the saying goes, “beggars can’t be choosers.”

Agreed.

For whatever reason, Jeep's lethargy in coming up with off road performance enhancements is most likely another marketeer relic.

I.E. "We're not gonna offer lockers, HD axles and enhanced suspension on any model other than our most expensive offering. All you non-Rubicon buyers can just suck it." ?

Yeah. I’m not sure that’s a marketing or a product planning decision. My guess is the latter.

Jeep used to be this niche, approachable, humble brand that overdelivered. That’s how it converted millions into devout fans over the decades.

But after years of foreign ownership, Jeep has become greedy, smug and overpriced; a status brand that rises expectations and delivers the bare minimum.

Clearly a JLURD for fuel mileage and capability.

It depends on what you're doing. I've owned a couple 2 door Jeeps. They're great at short turns, tricky trails, etc. But they suck if you plan to go on a long trip. Not enough space, not stable enough on the highways, lower capacity, and a RTT is a stretch. I moved up to a JLUR for those reasons. Sure, I'll have a harder time around some tighter turns. But I'd rather do a 3 point turn than have to try to camp with a 2 door.

All good answers so far. Remember there's no wrong answer here. Everyone has a different opinion and a different use for there rig. Some people are more into pure wheeling some are into more Overlanding.
so true,,, ,I wanted my first jeep but wasn't sure why. I thought I would be doing more wheeling so I went with the JLR for tighter turns as I learn my way around..... now I may be doing more overlanding and wondering if I should have went JLUR.....

as my wife and I went cross country on my motorcycle last year, I am not giving up on the JLR.. I am assuming I can make it work as it's pretty large considering where I am coming from ;)

Well now that I have read this whole thread I can say, with full certainty, the 2 door in Snazzberry. From all my research, the Snazzberry is fastest of all the colors, gets better gas mileage than the rest, and has a slightly better crawl ratio. So hands down, the 2 door Snazzberry, end of conversation. (mike drop moment)

I’ve done a couple Harley cross country trips, can’t get smaller than a Dyna for camping. :)

I’ve since switched to a Jeep, more space. :p

Who needs facts? Due to the limited engine options the 2 door is out from 2 out of 3 of your "facts". 392 obviously the fastest, then 4xe, then diesel, no 2 doors. The diesel by far gets the best mileage, no 2 doors. No that the 4.88's are available, you can actually get the best available crawl ratio in a 2 door (although it won't make up for the huge torque disadvantage caused by the engine option limits). Opinions are great, prefer 2 doors great, but facts are facts.

I was just kidding. Sorry I did not make that clear.

I've also heard snazz is lighter than the other colors and adds a 2" lift and makes the tires larger. Cleary a snazz Rubi is the best Rubi in any config.
