This is a look into the not too distant future here in the US. The government needs to quit manipulating private industry.

I understand some sensible regulation. What I don’t understand is crippling an entire industry. What factories will be left to build our war materiel when the next global conflict fired up?
War? Huh? In this day and age we are totally accepting of each other (unless you were canceled) so there is no need or fear of war. Right?... RIGHT?

... ill demonstrate how bad this policy is by giving you far less tax revenue and employment until you figure it out...
Seeing how the manufactures knuckled under with this whole EV drama, I doubt that philosophy would end well for Stellantis. Gov's got just a bit more power.

I keep forgetting this is different than CAFE standards here that are designed to increase fuel efficiency across an entire fleet (CA notwithstanding). The EU is actually mandating volume of EV sales vs ICE sales. Never mind the fact it's dirtier to mine and create a ton of batteries that don't even last the life of a vehicle and need to be disposed of and replaced (i.e., my 4xe battery as already been replaced once). Gotta love it when governments plan our measly existence for us.

The article may be from Europe but this is exactly what has been happening in 14 states in the past 18 months. ICE sales are dependent on zero emissions sales, heading to 100% EV in 10 years. Hence only 4XE being on dealer lots in those 14 states as Stellantis wants their EV to ICE ratio as favorable as possible.
Once I saw that announcement from CA I put in an order for a 2024 and sold my JK.

At least (for now) you can still order what you want in those states. But buying one from dealer inventory means getting a 4Xe, or choosing a Bronco. This has done nothing for Jeep and a lot for Ford.

automotive is one of those industries you dont want to lose. They could destroy it if they want to be like germany I guess, but seeing the company at least respond by not only what I mentioned above but pissed off people who get told by the manufacturer exactly why they cant get an ice vehicle isnt a bad thing.

Now that football season has restarted, I’m seeing a lot more sales commercials where the posted incentives are focused solely on “gas powered models”. I’m sure this comes into play with these scenarios by choosing to eat profits on the ICE models but I fail to see how this encourages more sales of the non-ICE models. Maybe hoping to get unsuspecting buyers onto the car lots only to discover that unless they want to order an ICE model, their only choices on the lot are non-ICE

Am I crazy in thinking they could strip these vehicles down to just be reliable ICEs with the absolute minimum amount of emissions equipment to legally sell the vehicle? Yeah, they'll pay fines to the EPA due to low fleet standards but that cost is more than covered by just rolling the price into the vehicle. The cost of R&D, parts, and especially warranty repairs would drop substantially.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're yet to make a profit from the hybrid Pacifica or even 4XEs due to all the warranty repairs. Customer satisfaction took a major nose dive as well. That R&D was expensive and shit keeps breaking.

Do they really think a company with our reputation can just snap their fingers and make a reliable EV? If their terrible business decisions don't break the company, pushing out garbage EVs definitely will without major government subsidies.

edit; didn't realize the EU forces OEMs to sell a certain amount of EVs for each ICE sold. Absolute tomfoolery.

While that's true, I think it still says something about the parent company's thinking. They just don't seem to get that maybe reducing prices would entice customers to purchase their products. It's like they're internally blaming customers for not wanting to spend what they believe their products are worth. So, they are just going to close plants and reduce production. Not sure how sustainable that is when you start laying people off everywhere. Seems like a good way to go belly-up.
If it were my company and you were trying to regulate me to death and either force me to give EVs away at a loss or pay you for the right to sell ICE vehicles, especially when you're market is a fraction of my total sales I'd step away too. Taking the hard line there might cause enough consumer push back to stop the government mandates in the larger markets like the US.

Now 18 states + DC.
Ca is now after the transportation industry.
Per Ca.gov- Governor Gavin Newsom
California became the first jurisdiction in the world today to end the sales of traditional combustion trucks by 2036- moving the state forward on Governor Gavin Newsom’s ambitious plan to dramatically cut pollution, protect public health and accelerate the transition to clean vehicles, CARB also approved first-in-the-nation regulation to limit train pollution.

Known as Advanced Clean Fleets, the new rule puts the state on a path toward accomplishing Governor Newsom’s goal of fully transitioning the medium and heavy-duty trucks that travel California’s roads to zero emissions technology by 2045……………….
• Drayage trucks (ie big rigs), local delivery and government fleets must transition by 2035;
• Garbage trucks must be zero emission by 2039;
• All other vehicles covered by the regulation must be zero-emission by 2042;
……… BS………..

This adds to California’s Advanced Clean Trucks rule, approved by the Biden administration last month , which requires manufacturers …………..BS…….

It's almost like the article is about the EU and EU regs and has very little bearing on Jeep in the US
except, thanks to one party, the US is following EU lead. I see this as a way to drive ICE prices through the roof, to pay for more cheap EV, which are really paid for by ICE customers.
