My guess is that they chose a weak compressor due to heat concerns. The more powerful compressors generate more heat, in my experience, and that space just doesn't allow for sufficient ventilation.
I thought it mounts behind the spare tire on the outside of the tailgate. That would be great ventilation, I would think.

As seldom as used----

I don't see any reason for the IN-VEHICLE compressor installation !

Mine is portable and only taken when required !

Disagree, I used mine just last week to help a nurse stranded on the side of the road. She had a flat but the spare was low. I topped it up, told her I would follow her to the closest Mr Tire in case it was a leak in the spare, and felt good to help.

If my compressor was at home I'd not be able to help the same way.

She was smoking hot to boot!

I wonder how well the ARB Twin would mount back there? (Or if it even fits?)

Yeah, it will be interesting to see if there are some other options to install there. The placement is brilliant.

Well air lockers are one reason. Most people air down every time they go off road. I use mine at least a few times a month.

I think you could have turned that into a penthouse forum moment.

Curiously, I too donā€™t like a ā€˜fixed mountā€ so I disagree with your ā€œdisagreeā€.

But, I Agree with you having a compressor with you at all times. I do as well.
I keep a portable Smittybilt in the small bag that it comes with in the back of my jeep at all times. I couldnā€™t be bothered to permenantly mount it for as little as I use it. I want to be able to juice up the wifeā€™s tires if needed and, since we live in a highrise without spots assigned in the parking garage, she may many spots away or even on a different floor than the Jeep. So, Aligator clips and a portable unit work great! But I also want to be able to have available for roadside assistance/self fix if needed too.

in the end, tossing a portable compressor in the Jeep and just leaving it there works really well for me......

Looks like the smittybilt portable has some of the best options, price, cfm output, portability. However I canā€™t get the off road only version of there permanently installed York air compressor out of my mind. I know this thing is extremely expensive but after having years of experience using these compressors I can attest to their reliability. I think this is what I will be going to get in the very near future.

Maybe @AllMoparParts.com can help with the on-board Mopar Air and the DVR dashcam system information

Any information on part numbers or word on the air compressor and tailgate?
