Totally understand your concerns
I can only describe my experience
Purchased the K & N installed at the 5,000 mile mark. YES, the factory air filter didn't need to be replaced, but I like working on my Jeep and decided to go for it. I now have 14,890 miles (approximately 10,000) with zero issues
I haven't even thought about it until several recent posts here in the Eco-Diesel forum
I would describe my experience as very happy & worry free
PS> my Eco-Diesel is the 3rd GEN if it matters, ordered Jan 2022, received Feb 2022
Long time K&N user here... have almost exclusively gone back to paper on all my cars/trucks/bikes here with the rare exception of where there's a specific CAI or other format change that mandates a different filter type. Net - after ~35yrs or so of this the paper ones today are very good/complete and you don't have to mess with oily MAFs or the other side affects and additional maintenance oil introduces into the equation. To each his own.

I bet the OEM supplier is Mann+Hummel. They have taken over the filter industry. Your filter looks exactly like the "HD" filter I used on my old TDI Jetta.

I recommend the K & N Air Filter
See pics below

Having rebuilt an engine (one only ever used on-road, so no fine dust that we get off-road) that used one of the K&N filter and having the carbon deposits analyzed with the result of excessive dust and a suggestion to use a filter, I can assure you that you are shortening the life of your vehicle.

Exactly my thoughts. If you have a requirement for an "open flow" type fiter , like a race engine that will get rebuilt often or requires the additionalair flow to make it's horsepower, IMO the OEM will probably out perform the abilities of a stock Gladiator regardless if a gas or diesel. I think there is probably a need for some extra filtration if doing a lot of city or dusty off road driving (which is probably 90% of us).

i used K&N filters faithfully, and maintained them per spec.

i did a Used Oil Analysis on my old J**p and found the levels of Silica in the oil were absurdly high; i won't use K&Ns anymore.

i've been OK with OEM filters recently, but might seek out an AC Delco after seeing the attached report.

Had an old 2003 Dodge 2500 Cummins that I bought new. Put a K&N in shortly after buying it. Ran with it for about 5 years and then switch to AFE when they came out with their Pro-Guard7 media. Aside from every day on highway driving, twice a week I would drive down to our property to feed cattle which meant driving down a long dusty dirt road along with all the dust and debris that flew up while driving on the property. Sold that truck at around 325k miles.

Current 2014 Cummins(bought new as well) has had an AFE Momentum intake since new. Engine has over 150k miles and goes through the same dusty roads at our property. Ran several used oil analysis over the years to find out that I have slightly more silica than normal, but nothing I would get worried about based on my experience when working at Cummins and seeing what those engines go through. After all, the emissions system that I took off this truck at 7k miles was putting way more crap through the intake along fuel dilution in the oil due to all the regens which in my opinion(based on my experience at Cummins) does way more in shortening the life of an engine than an aftermarket performance filter ever will.

Replaced the unreliable VG turbo in this tuck at around 60k miles with performance fixed geometry turbo. Didn't see any abnormal wear on the compressor blade of the old turbo due to high dirt intake which would normally be a sign that your air filter is not filtering enough. I also replaced the injectors with 30 over injectors which allowed me to put my borescope camera down every cylinder. The factory cross-hatching was still clearly visible in every cylinder which is a sign that the engine has little wear even with the AFE and driving down all those dirt roads for 150k miles.

I also have a BMW 328d with a 2.0L diesel that I bought with 28k several years ago and I have ran an AFE on that since about a month after I bought it. This is my work and back car and currently has almost 150k miles on clock since I put around 22k miles a year on it for work. No signs of excess oil usage due to higher than normal engine wear either. It was also tuned and deleted shortly after buying it as well.

Those are just my experiences with aftermarket performance intakes. Take it as you wish.

Zero issues with it so far. If anything I'd honestly say it has improved air flow. I always felt like the OEM air filter and pre-air filter were choking out the engine. Without doing a dyno test before and after, I can't honestly say that it's improved engine efficiency, but when I drove it 10 mi yesterday it felt like it was smoother running and maybe even a little more responsive from the pedal. Could just be my imagination, but I'm really happy I did this so far.
