So this is odd - when looking up the VIN for my 2019 JLU Sport (2nd owner) via multiple resources (including Jeep.com) it comes back as a 2020. Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things I suppose, as I doubt there are many (if any) major variations between the two years, but hey, if it's actually a year newer than I thought, that's not a bad thing, right? lol

More than anything I found it curious though and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience or perhaps knew why/how such a discrepency could occur. Definitely the first time I've ever heard of or encountered such a thing!

If the VIN decodes to a 2020, it's a 2020. Nothing odd about it.

The tenth digit tells you what year it is, and it doesn't matter what year it was sold. If the tenth digit is an "L", it's a 2020.

Doubtful if you actually have a discrepancy.

It's likely the original owner bought your vehicle in 2019 as a 2020.

Take a look at your door tag/sticker. There should be a build date on there (MDH). Aside from the VIN itself, that should tell you when your vehicle was built.

Celebrate, you’re a year better off than you though. What does the Title say? If it says 19 I’d go to DMV with the proof and get the title updated.

Is it possible someone swapped the VIN to your vehicle before you bought it?

Alternatively, is it possible your registration documentation VIN is different from what is actually on the Jeep?
