I´m heading to Moab for my 5th time on the 17th of October for a fun week of wheeling. This will be my JLUR´s 4th trip and first with my son at the wheel. I´m taking my Gladiator on its first trip. We´ll be joined by my brother in his new Chevy Colorado Zr2 Bison, so we´re excited to see how it does.

Anyway, we´ve done a bunch of trails and have our favorites, but we want to do some new ones. One think we´re looking for is a good one to do at night. Here are some of our favs we have done before:

Hells Revenge (of course)
Fins & Things
SevenMile Rim
Gemini Towers
Elephant Hill (LOVE that one!)
White Rim

We´ve done a couple others that I cannot remember, as well.

What are some of your favs, and why?

The Jeeps are Rubicons and the Chevy has lockers F/R. We are all on 35´s with about 2.5 inches of lift.

We love challenging trails but don´t like breaking trucks. Not looking for trails that are more for rigs brought in on a trailer. We want to do a mix including some a couple that are easier and scenic, like maybe Onion Creek. Haven´t been on that one but heard it is beautiful.

I´d love to hear your suggestions!

Poison spider and top of the world are must do’s. At night fins and things might be fun. Also jax tracks might be better for easier stuff. I really enjoyed flat iron mesa and pretty easy but the intimidator has high pucker factor. I have done Golden crack in the dark and would not recommend it.

Definitely should do the Trifecta, but I'm thinking there was a sign at the start of Fins & Things stating that it was supposed to be off limits after dark. No clue why.

Parts of it at the start run near/through a campground or two.

Probably also because it's a popular newbie trail and the number of newbies getting in trouble and/or going off trail is higher at night

Poison Spider looks great! We are also thinking about pairing up Onion Creek with Top of the World. That'd be a good day, I think.

Yep, it was the first trail we attempted to attempt after arriving at Moab the first time. Drove past that sign, realized how late it was, then turned around and did the trail the following morning.

Consider doing the Trifecta if you're already planning on doing Poison Spider. Just make sure to start early in the day (unlike we did).

And definitely add Top of the World to your plans. Not stupidly challenging, but gorgeous from the top. Side note: there's a massive crack at the top to the left that's a blast to jump over while looking into it.

Pair up Onion Creek with Porcupine Ridge - that would be money.

Ok, what trails make up the trifecta besides Poison Spider?

poison spider, golden bar and golden spike....I have done it twice once in the dark and not fun....in fact scary as hell...was not on purpose. I really would think a zr2 bison would have some troubles on it.

Curious to hear how the ZR2 bison does. That's not a rig I'd take on anything like Poison Spider, Top of The World, etc. Wheelbase and rear overhang way too long.

We did Poison Spider last year with @Camaroboi13 in his gladiator, and yup the tail did hit on a few of the drops. I don't think he broke anything, but the extra length of the pickup bed requires a soft touch in a few spots.

I imagine the same would be true of Top of the World

In the dark would up the challenge a lot, but it's not like some of the trails there where there's massive drop-offs that could be deadly at night.

Edit: oh, I forgot about the ZR2.

Cool! We´ll take a look at those. One thing the Bison has going for it is that my brother is about 20% nuts and won´t be afraid to hurt it. He had a Gladiator Rubi with a 2¨ lift and 35´s the last time he took his own vehicle there and did things that dropped jaws. And the truck somehow shrugged it off. Should be entertaining, for sure.

I´m running a Gladiator, so it would have the same struggles. So maybe a pass on some of that. Although I think I´ve seen some Gladiator pics on Top of the World. Not sure, though.
