Hey everyone!

There is surprisingly little to go off of when it comes to these wheels so I thought I would make a thread for anyone else looking at Method 704's or any of the other 700 Series (Bead Grip) options.

I purchased 17x8.5 Method 704's in Matte Titanium with 4.75" of backspacing (0 offset). I paired these with a set of XR take-off KO2's (315/70r17) on the stock Rubicon suspension. A 2.5" Metalcloak Gamechanger is planned, but I have yet to find a convenient time for my Jeep to be down for a couple of days.

Wheels weigh ~35 pounds, so not the lightest option, but not quite as heavy as a bead lock. I will update this thread when I get to test the Bead Grip tech, but many others have written about that and had good things to say.

This particular wheel is only available in black or Matte Titanium. I like black for touch ups, but really wanted the matte titanium as it adds a little dimension and almost perfectly matches the gray grille inserts and headlight bezels on Rubicons.

I've attached some initial pics, but will update with more tomorrow! Also, feel free to ask questions or for a specific photo/angle to get a better idea of stance!

Jeep looks great! Thanks for adding this little bit. We haven't swapped out the stock Rubicon wheels yet, but I was thinking of looking for a gunmetal gray option to match the Rubicon accents when we do.

I'm intersted in seeing how these work with the offset shock mounts of the MC. Looks sharp!

I actually called Metalcloak about that! You can get away with 4.75” of backspacing and still use the outboard shock relocation brackets if you have a Rubicon or swap in Rubicon axles. It’s going to be very tight, but the axles are a bit wider so I should have the clearance.

I only verified this up to a 37/12.50r17 tire, though, as that’s the maximum size I plan on going with.

Thanks! And no problem! This is exactly why I created the thread. I have only seen 2 other forum members with these wheels and neither has a build thread or posted more than a random picture or two.

Here’s a pic before I mounted everything where you can see the headlight bezels and wheel. I will try to grab another when the sun comes up now that everything is mounted.

Not exact, but close enough in my opinion.

@Philly, thank you for the photos of your Method 701 wheels, they look great. I run the MR409 Method wheels on my side x side a low pressures without any problems. I look forward to your about your experience.

Took some more pics! I need to get out in the sun and off road now!

In these pictures the Jeep is on level ground and the steering wheel is perfectly straight to try and give another look at the stance with 35's and 4.75" backspacing on Rubicon axles.

That titanium looks great!

I was back and forth between 704 and 701. Ended up getting 701s.

Looks great! I actually prefer the fewer spokes of the 701, but I didn't want black or bronze and I couldn't justify powder coating a brand new set of wheels I was going to tear up on the trails.

Thanks! That’s actually why I ended up with them. At the time I wanted to stay with the all black Willys theme. I would probably entertain another color now.

BTW, I ran 9 psi in sand a couple weeks ago with no issues whatsoever, but I wasn’t really pushing any limits either. I’m running 37s on a stock front axle. I will be babying it until I get something more beefy up there.

Good to know! I’ve run 10psi in deep sand on stock wheels in the past, but I was thinking about trying out 8 or maybe even 5 depending on how much smoosh I get in the sidewalls.

For the rocks, I will likely start at 15psi as that’s my go-to and then work my way down.

Looking good!

I'll throw in a couple of pics of my 702's just to round out the full picture.

First pic here is on stock suspension, second is with XR springs and shocks. Ended up with just under 2" of lift from the XR bits.

Those are some of the best looking aftermarket wheels out there. Looks awesome. How much did you pay for the XR takeoff tires? I may be selling mine and going for 37s.
