I’m considering the MBRP high tuck exhaust for a few reasons:

- Eliminating the muffler would open up that space to possibly mount an air tank I could use with my dual air compressor
- Any, and I mean even the most minute increase in diesel engine noise is worth it to me

So, here are my questions for the few of you who have installed this:

- Does the exhaust still terminate at the same place? I have a DEF skid plate and am worried it won’t work with the MBRP
- ANY drone?
- Would you say there’s enough room to mount a small air tank where the muffler was? I’d have to put heat shielding in between I’m sure

I know there’s no performance gains and any exhaust note is going to be super minimal because of the emissions junk. I just can’t see any other possible location to mount an air tank on the exterior. I’d like to be able to run air tools if I wanted to, plus some day I’ll move to tons and air lockers will be the likely choice.

I’ve got one. No sound change at all, no performance change at all. It does create space for an air tank.
My JLU is stock otherwise, no fitment issues. I then added a stainless tip.

Would you be so kind as to measure how much distance there is between the exhaust and your DEF tank? These photos are really helpful, I appreciate it!!

Go to a muffler/exhaust shop and have them fab you one with the clearance you need. It'll probably be the same price or cheaper since it's such a small section of pipe.

Sure, when I get it back from the dealer. It’s at the body shop for tailgate paint issues?, again. Hinges in fall of 22, now the tailgate itself ?

Makes me wonder if some clown touches parts to be painted with their bare hands or something!

@ChuckQue, don't you have inspections in SoCal that would make this challenging? We don't have inspections in this specific area of CO, but that could easily change over the years.

Colorado doesn't care once you're after the emissions control parts. The muffler and tail pipe don't affect emissions so they don't worry about it. This is direct from the emissions guy I talked to at the state office.

Interesting.

My muffler is wrapped by an NVM skid that also protects the DEF canister. I guess I'd need to do something special for that.

As far as I can tell it bypasses the muffler. That's not required? That'd be awesome if true.
I’ve had modified exhausts on most of my vehicles. Never once during a required smog test/check has the tech looked at my exhaust or even the engine in general. They’ve always just hooked up the computer and let it do its thing.

The skid I have does the same. It looks like the MBRP high tuck does exit the same area as the OEM sans muffler, which is why im considering using that empty space for a compressor tank. I figure it’s good use of it. Or, if you didn’t want the tank it’s at least a weight reduction.

You need some kind of spark arresting device. Something that keeps your engine from starting a fire. But a lot of that is there with the other emissions devices.

There may be some kind of noise regulation so straight pipes with nothing to muffle the sound are frowned upon. But we have the turbo, cat, and DPF to do that.

What’s your thoughts on what I am thinking of doing?
