Hi anyone know whos fabricating a manual or preferably an electric cutout/dump for the Eco's ?
a bolt on would be real nice . Hooked up the one of the aux switches ... i know there are universal ones out there, which i can fabricate as well

Done a few of those over the years and you need to put the cutout in the right place.

IF possible you want to do your cutout at the bottom of the first curve in the exhaust pipe.

Here is how I did it: at the first curve, cut off the bottom of the curve. The pipe will come in straight into the curve, EXTEND the straight pipe down below the curve using a piece of pipe the same size as the exhaust pipe at that juncture. You need to have it threaded with a cap on it. Just a threaded pipe, weld it up good and it it flows straight thru.

If you use some thread compound that can take the heat you are good to go, just make sure you carry a short pipe wrench to get it off when you. want to.

I’ve done one on my Grand National it was a manual version with a cable pull jd an electric one on my Supra. The worry I have is the downpipe to the Cat/Def unit. Will IT not see enough exhaust and trip a code or shut the engine down ? These new diesels are trick
But I see what area you are referring too
It’s in the plan

What do you expect to see / gain from this ? I understand the concept and have seen the results in action, but usually when dealing with much "healthier" vehicles, that where purpose built. I just never thought to put the JTRD in that category.

On a side note, did you ever see any gain/improvement from your momentum air filter setup ?

Yes ! The gains are very noticeable. In acceleration , torque and spool Up

the air intake + intercooler piping and Banks tuner Has some very nice Power range. From a full stop take off and nice -knocks you in the back when stepping on it around 55mph
It haulsssss asssss. So I know the toque and power is there when needed

That’s awesome that you did not get a P026c light after install. I swapped my filter for an aftermarket and it took about a month and an unnecessary fuel pump replacement to figure out that increased airflow past the MAP sensor was the culprit.

I would have to imagine it will trip a code. I don't know if it would put it into limp mode, But without exhaust air flow through the main exhaust tube, it will more than likely throw a code.

These EcoDiesel exhaust sensors aren't like O2 sensors, where you can just put on a j-pipe and trick them. They are actually measuring the particulates coming out of the exhaust, though I don't know how.?

You could try it, realistically it might work and not throw a code. I do think the only way to tell at this point is to try it and see what happens. Only downside being if it does go into limp mode you're probably going to have to take it to the dealer, and who knows what they are going to say.

Given that you live in California, I would probably say your best bet would be get a stage 1 tune, disable the DEF (I believe that disables the DEF related exhaust sensor), leave the EGR intact (that way you're not getting as much soot in the exhaust pipe), and then do your electronic secondary exhaust pipe thingy, run it parallel to your OEM exhaust pipe, and pray it doesn't throw a code.

The only other option that I know of that will guarantee it won't throw a code, is a stage 2 tune. If you do happen to do that, you might want to move out of California, and then you can actually keep the OEM exhaust, you just going to have to knock out the honeycomb before you reinstall it. I was thinking about doing that myself for a while, but not anymore though. Probably just going to leave my Jeep as it is. ;)

On a diesel ? Why would you get a code ? If it’s an open air filter. Like the Rapid air version of Afe air intake. I can see why as it sucks in a lot more air as it doesn’t have a tuned box. This is what I believe the momentum HD is a tuned air intake it is an open element air filter. Like any other K&N mesh/gauze material. But it’s surrounded by a large box.
and incorporating the Banks tuner it checks for codes and all aspects of air and fuel sensor and egt and etc Just my thoughts

knocking out the honeycomb is old school lol. Loved doing this on my 85 turbo ZX back in 94
The good old days before all the idiots started to crowd the scene. Moving out of Cali ? Hmmm maybe one day. Hope I don’t need to because of the wonderful economy But just for the smog crap. Ya I’m not moving. I love messing around with turbos and such. My ZX. My twin T ZX. My Audi 3. Volvo 850 T5. 94 Supra lol. Now I’m with my beloved JL eco. It’s got plenty for every terrain ! I can spin the wheel on race mode lol. But it’s not meant for that I just love Torque. Might get a pedal monster and re-gear in the near future ! Cheers

The other air filter seems to have flowed better and the code is for fuel pressure lower than expected. This code is on the low pressure side of the fuel system. More air, same fuel pressure as before and sometimes you get that code. GDE was the one that asked if I had changed anything in the intake. I went back to a stock filter, reset the code and it never came back. Seems to be a nuisance code more that anything that’s a real problem.

Better flow isn't necessarily the Holy Grail. Better, longer engine life, seems to lean towards the OEM. See attached.
