I recently read on this forum that a certain dealership in another state was very competitive on offering Mopar Max Care warranties (or service contracts). I contacted that dealership and got a number of quotes based on different years of coverage, miles, and deductible levels. I decided that a Mopar Max Care 5 year, 100,000 mile, $200 deductible was the plan for me. They quoted me $1470. I then reached out to my local Jeep dealership for a quote on the same 5-100k-$200 Max Care plan. They responded with a quote of $2895, and maxed at 60,000 miles.

Why are these two quotes so wildly different? I understand that some dealerships work harder to get your business, but twice the price for 40% fewer miles? Thoughts?

Because dealerships are third party and have to make a buck. How much of a buck depends on the dealership. I paid 3,100 for unlimited miles and a 100 dollar deductible for 7 years. I should have done the 8 year plan for a 100,000 miles with a 100 dollar deductible.

Def consider purchasing one soon before you hit the 3 years or 36 K miles, or that price could jump drastically! If you haven’t yet reach out to
Tom Winkels
Hayes Jeep
DIRECT-269-385-1116
TEL-269.488.2080

He’s prices are extremely competitive and he’s well known on our boards, STAY away from local dealers cause extended warranties are one of their top selling profit maker ???

My dad recently purchased a grand Cherokee 4xe and was told by his dealer that they didn’t offer MOPAR Max Care warranties. Instead they tried selling him some other 8 year warranty for $3,300.

*1 for Tom Winkels and buying it before you're out of the standard warranty period. FCA also raise's the price on these products (especially now during a period of high inflation) on a fairly regular basis.

Andrew,

You're now bringing even more pain from my Mopar Extended Warranty. I purchased mine (foolishly) at the point of sale at the dealership. Mine was a little north of $2K for an unlimited mile, seven year, $200 deductible, extension on top of the factory. Of course, I rolled this into my financing at the time, of which is now, thankfully paid off.

I too paid to much. Damn insurance. Since I had never owned a Wrangler prior to this, and having paranoia of powertrain or other warranty related issues, they likely squeezed more blood from this turnip.

However, they recently quoted me $1048 for a stuck rear seat (stuck folded down) on my 2019 2-door Sport (at 36450 miles). Worse, they of course conveniently could not determine I had any extended warranty coverage. I had to 'prove' my purchase by supplying a hard copy of the original agreement. They are all coniving schiesters.

Granted, I purchased my JL at a different dealership but it is nonetheless still a valid corporate Mopar Extended Warranty.

Wait it gets better (sarcasm alert - actually a whole lot worse). They repaired the rear seat issue requiring no parts being replaced. All $1K in labor. The repair required just internal cabling adjustments. They did however charge me just the deductible.

BUT while being repaired, a delivery truck driver collided with my vehicle causing over another $3600 in body damage. Worse yet, the stealership refused all liability claiming the delivery driver was from a 3rd party vendor, not a dealership employee, even though he was doing dealership business on their property. Worse, they claimed on the police report that the collision occured on a portion of their property used for public parking.

When I was finally able to get there (I was at work 15 miles away at the time), it appeared to be parked exactly where it was hit, near a service bay door. What delivery driver knucklehead would meander into a parking lot and randomly hit just one single vehicle?

So, I had to claim this accident on my own auto insurance policy. I even had to pay that deductible. The dealership was unwilling to help me in any way.

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Do not under any circumstance, even for a moment, expect the dealership to do anything in your favor in good faith. Any extended warranty is likely just throwing good money away. From my very personally difficult experience, I'd have rather set up a savings account and put whatever I originally shelled out and put it into escrow as a rainy day fund. And then never set foot on the dealership lot again.

The dealership stole from me at the point of sale for the extended warranty (based on your estimate). They tried to steal from me by failing to research my records and claiming I didn't have one. They stole my time and well being by putting me through the wringer with the collision damage and all it's insurance (and rental replacement) aftermath. They then stole the lost value of my vehicle's worth (it now shows up on Car Fax as having been in a collision). All this because I had the stupidity of trying to have a warranty repair accomplished in the first place.

Please, please be warned. The dealership will NEVER be your friend. Don't ever give them an excuse to steal from you. Including extended coverage. Or just think of me as some disgruntled schmoe and this would never happen to you. Alert!!! Have you ever read just one single post on this forum with a positive dealership experience? Be forewarned: this (or something like it) WILL happen to you. Dealership's are crooked. Take your chances. It's only your money they're after. Nothing else.

Hope this helps you make a better informed decision.

Best Regards,
Jay

+1 for Tom Winkles.
A dealership can pull up the details of your Chrysler Max Care, no hard copy needed. Or, they did for my rear locker sensor issue.

When we bought our 2 door a few months back, we were sitting in the finance office going through that rigamarole. When it was time to talk about extended warranties, the finance guy pulled up his screen to show us the various options. I don't remember exactly terms and prices, but it was showing something like dealer cost: $1,000 then selling price: $2,900 right next to it.

I'm not sure if he was just being transparent or an idiot, but I declined.

No thanks buddy. I'm not gonna give you $2k extra just because.

They are different for a lot of reasons. The $2895 is the MSRP of your plan.

Now some dealers some them cheaper and some dealers sell the MEGA Cheap. All this is based upon VOLUME. Dealer pay varying amounts of $-$$$$$$ for the same plan, all based upon volume of sales. Some dealers have a Dept that is all they do and sell a deep discount.

Some dealers depend upon the Sales guy to offer it up and some the Finance guy to make a play for you and some dealers don't mention it. Some dealers sell a plan that sounds good, but it has a catch. They are the selling dealer and if you come back to them it's no good anywhere else! Be cautious of that!!!

Extended warranties make you a slave to the dealer. You have to follow and document all required services on their schedule. Most who buy one are going to get that service done at the dealer to "protect the warranty". It's a win/win for the dealer, they sell the warranty and get you to do your service there.

May take has always been that if something is defective, It will break before the factory warranty expires. I bought my first brand new vehicle in 1990, and have never bought an extended warranty. I do all of my own service and I fix all the little things, so I've hardly ever used a factory warranty.

But you don't have to buy at your dealer and can use it at any of them.
