@roaniecowpony and I have talked about maybe trying to make a metal insert for the OEM bearing at some point if my clutch starts having issues again. So far I still only have 2k miles on the clutch although it did start having some problems getting stuck in reverse the last time I drove it about a month ago.
I think I saw you said that somewhere at some point. Or I dreamed it, I think about these damn clutches enough anything is possible. I’ve said before , I’ve never experienced any lockout. Just trying to be proactive and not get stranded on long road trips. I just don’t think I’m so lucky to not have the issues others are experiencing. So far just noise and crunchy pedal feel when warmed up . And real slight forward reverse creep when cold only.

I thought I wasn't going to have issues either. I was at 15k miles since install, then I started noticing some croaking when I pushed my clutch in, then it started locking me out of first after a long day of wheeling 12 hours from home. I had talked to @SadRobot enough to know what came next. Traded it in shortly after I got home. I do miss it, but I don't miss worrying about when or if it was going to take a shit and leave me stranded.

For those that do happen to find themselves clutch stranded in Bridgeport, Texas I do have a great pasta recommendation. You're never stranded with pasta on your plate.

Haha, I might be reaching out to some of you in or on the way to California from eastern Ohio in July if I have problems and need food recommendations for a while.

new year new update from me

i’m at about 16k miles on the new ACT clutch and still shifting like a hot knife thru butter (knock on wood)

I did move down south so not exposed to cold winter and salt roads so not same environmental conditions as my previous ACT clutch

What is the question? I recently replaced my ACT with the Centerforce II + hydraulic throw-out. The CF bearing has some plastic components visible; it's not fully metal.

It 100% solves pedal issues. Bites at correct location, no crunch/vibration, and resistance is uniform through the entire range of motion. It feels a lot better than ACT.

That said, it does not solve sporadic issue shifting to 1st from neutral at a stop light.

I was just being a smart ass towards someone that probably ignores me now . But that’s good info. As I’ve said before I don’t get any lock out or lock in. Just waiting for the day at this point.

I remember driving my brother's old VW, when my car was down for something. The clutch cable was broken and you had to start it in gear, shift without a clutch by synchronizing the RPM then pull it into neuchie when you came to a stop, shut it off, restart in gear again to take off. Fun times when I was a poor boy.

Haha I bet that added a new level of excitement to driving around.

Funny how I can remember stupid shit like this from 50 years ago and not remember where I put my glasses 10 minutes ago.

Well overnight my Jeep just went from annoying to drive to afraid to drive. A lot of the tricks like when stopped, shift to second before first quit working today, and I wasn't sure I could even drive it home. R, 1, 2, 3 all locked out at multiple stoplights and often locked out while moving. So, I've scheduled to have the recall done :(

The shop said they replace clutches (in general across all brands and models) every 1-2 weeks, and they are fine that I've regeared and have an aftermarket clutch already installed. I figured it can't get much worse than it already is.
So I made an appointment on the 29th. That service advisor quit before ordering the new clutch. 2 more weeks until it comes in. They went ahead and installed the software. I guess looking at the bright side, this gives me a chance to reprogram the gears before they complete the recall... Let's hope it doesn't leave me stranded somewhere unable to shift between now and then 🤞. It's warmed up a little, so I was able to drive it to the dealership without any major issues.

After they install the new clutch you'll likely still need to complete the "Clutch Replacement EEPPROM Reset Procedure". It's simple, just takes a few minutes. Good luck.

I get that a bit even with the factory stock clutch and no recall update. My Tacoma had it too, IIRC. I suspect it's a separate issue of slight wear on the first gear synchronizers.

Today was the first time I drove the jeep in the winter since owning it for nearly 6 years. It was 4 degrees for the 25 minute drive, the clutch remained smooth as butter and it never made the creaking/ ratcheting sound I’ve described in the past. So heat plays a role in this, in my opinion anyhow. That being said it made its winter/ salt first trip to a dealer to trade it in. It got replaced with an AUTO gladiator. I wouldn’t even consider another one of these vehicles with a manual at this point. Wish everyone the best and a legitimate fix for this mess.
