I've owned a 2018 JLUR for about 6 months now. I'm not sure if it's always done this or I'm just now noticing. But there is a whine that comes from the manual transmission that increases in pitch as speed increases. Since I've owned the Jeep the dealer has done the clutch recall twice, I've changed the transmission fluid, put new tires on it, and changed the gears to 4.88's. I do not associate the noise as having started with any of these. The only reason I think it may have always been there is because the old tires were so noisy you couldn't hear anything else over them and I've only had the new, quiet tires for about a month now. It may be normal, and I have no performance issues with the transmission, but the pitch of the noise does seem to catch my eardrums in a way similar to nails on a chalkboard. No one else really even notices it when they ride with me. I've always had extremely sensitive hearing. I'm going to try to get a video of it later today to post. It may be normal?

I attached a recording. The noise can be heard in the background behind all the road and wind noise. At one point about halfway through I push the clutch in and let the engine come to idle to eliminate engine noise. You can really hear it then.

Maybe this is normal, IDK. Even if someone could verify that it is normal I'd appreciate it. I can live with it if I know it's normal.

Even though the factory calls for ATF?
My advice is to use what the manufacturer recommends. I use all Redline lubricants in my 3 cars; engine oil, gear oil, and MTL in manuals. In my C8 Corvette and BMW Z4 M4.0i, I use recommended ATF. The BMW uses the same ZF 8-speed as Jeeps...

You're contradicting yourself, which is why I'm confused. You say you're using MTL in your AL6, which calls for ATF? Or are you saying that Aisin calls for something different than Jeep in the same transmission?

No, not contradicting myself...I've always used Redline MTL in my manual transmission cars, after approximately 7000 miles break-in. In my auto-transmission cars, I use the manufacturer's recommended ATF. I usually change it more frequently than called for...

I'm so confused. Your sig says '23 Wrangler w/manual trans, which would be an AL6.

The factory service manual from Jeep says to use ATF in the AL6.

I'm fairly certain you said you put Redline MTL in at 9000 miles.

Then you said you recommend using what the factory says to use.

So you are not following your own advice.

What am I missing here? I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm just trying to understand what you are saying.

My Wrangler is a 2025, not a 2023...
The manual transmission used in the JL is an Aisin AL6, but I just call it the 6-speed manual...
As I've done with other manual transmissions, I change to Redline MTL after break-in miles...
The automatic transmission cars I own or have owned, I stay with the factory ATF...
If I still own the automatic transmission vehicle at 30,000 miles, I will change the transmission fluid, using the factory-recommended ATF...

That sounds like a differential whine to me.
