So what is the benefit of making it switched? I’m guessing battery life?

@Slowpoke

Not necessarily for a concern in regard to the battery(s) life of a JL/JT.... but...

All USB ports on the JL/JT stay powered up for over an hour, once ignition is switched to off.

Some guys/gals have wireless dongles they use in their JL/JT that they want to see powered down.... powered down immediately, when they turn ignition off and open the door...

There are assorted reasons for wanting the power to the dongle turned off immediately as mentioned.

With this hack, at least USB 2 can be powered down immediately as mentioned..

Does it really stay powered up that long? I thought my CarLinkIt went off within a minute or two after turning off the Jeep. I'll have to test it now and see :)

Yes, for just over an hour, ALL the USB ports on a JL/JT stay powered on.

Try this... Leave your JL's rear window flipped open and close the rear hatch door and all the other doors.
(With the rear window flipped up/open, you can easily visualize the power ports on the rear of the center console.)

Now, watch those 2 rear of center console USB ports .... you will see the lighting around those 2 USB ports turn off when they finally power down just over an hour later.

Ya I guess my post was directed specifically at the wireless dongle aspect. I have one in my Challenger and never thought to check if it's switched. Works really well so we want to put one in the Rubicon that should be here next month. I am going to check to see if our current set up is switched or not just so I know how to proceed.

I guess I have the cheap Jeep, I don't have any rear of center console USB ports - just the one inside the center console. But I can put my CarlinkIt up high enough to see its own power light I think in the center console. As long as the console lid is up of course I think I can see it enough to test.

Many complain about their phone staying connected to wireless CarPlay or Android Auto after parking and going into their house. This should resolve that issue.
