Bet you 100% polarity to steering motor is reversed
But why does it only happen above a certain speed? If it was reversed wouldnā€™t you feel it all the time? I donā€™t know how the electric motor and steering pump work together. If the electric motor is only used at higher speeds then maybe that would make sense. I would think the electric motor assist provides more help at lower speeds.

The steering input is modulated at higher speeds and takes input from the vehicle speed sensors . So thereā€™s obviously a voltage regulator that gives the pump a range of voltage based on that. If the regulator is bad it could be reversing polarity in certain situations etc...

OP...why is tire pressure warning lights on? Just wondering if it is preventing you from making sharp turns at speed with low tire pressures, although I drove home after a trail run and didn't experience this, but curious to know what pressures you are running and if adding PSI all around helps.

Weā€™re having a major issue. Please watch and comment if you have anything related.
Hi Kevin8086,
We're glad you reached out with this, as we understand your desires to have this addressed. We would like to make sure that this is appropriately documented within our systems. Please send us a PM with your VIN and any additional information. We hope to hear from you soon.

Really curious to see how this is dealt with. My JL is in D1 status. Slated to build. Sure hope this has been addressed and resolved. Could be a major problem for all new owners and Jeep if it becomes a recall.

I would also like to know why the TPMS lights seem to be on.

It would seem that some type of progressive speed related steering input sensor is applying maximum resistance when it should only be applying maybe 25 - 30%, thus locking down the steering.

This may seem extremely basic, but other threads have mentioned multiple cases of fuses and relays in fuse panel not secured into place completely causing electrical components to glitch. This may be worth a check.

Please keep us informed of the solution.

Is anyone here familiar with this new steering system? Does it use a traditional belt driven power steering pump and a separate electric motor or is the power steering pump driven by the electric motor? My Accord is fully electric. No power steering fluid.

When you short an electric motor, doesnā€™t it cause resistance? Maybe something like that is happening to the electric motor. Then again, maybe the problem is with the hydraulic system. Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

Maybe the OP can see if the problem is speed related or rpm related although it sounds like the OP has not been able to reproduce the problem.

It's electro-hydraulic, meaning there is an electric pump driving the fluid instead of a belt.

I'm with Slyderzero1, I'm guessing you're still aired down from playing. I would bet the limited steering is safety feature related to prevent tire from unseating during high speed turns when low psi is detected. See if dropping psi to turn on TPMS indicator will reproduce symptom and keep us posted

I believe this might be the case. The slight resistance I felt (though not even close to OPs issue) happened when i had recently gotten my JL. Realized later that the tires were actually highly over-inflated. After running 36 psi I've been good.

I recently took it out the other day and was unable to recreate any symptoms with proper tire pressure.

I had the tires at about 28-30 psi. So the light was on. Has nothing to do with the steering issue

Tpms has nothing to do with this. This issue happened on the third day of owning the jeep with stock everything and tire pressure at 38psi. It happens no matter what tire pressure is at or if the light is on or off.
