Magnetic drain plug for early warning engine failure

Just wondering if a magnetic drain plug might realistically show accumulated fine metal if the cams start to go.

And if it'd be worth it to catch the metal which might otherwise flow all over the engine.

But there is also an oil filter, so perhaps this idea won't work.

I mean, it can't hurt. Pulling the oil filter apart to look for bits of metal in the paper element wouldn't be a bad idea either. Neither would it be a bad idea to send oil off for analysis at each oil change. The last idea though is probably the most telling of engine health.

yup can't hurt but probably better to check the inside filter pleats which fortunately on the 3.6 filter is super easy...and as was also stated send in an oil sample once and awhile..

I think so. So far mine looks great after 4k oil change.
