Yea I'm looking for a D44 off a sport or a willys that has an lsd and the only reason I was going with a locker for the m200 was because nobody makes an lsd for that axle but they make plenty of lockers.
There's a pair of xr 4.56 geared axles for $4k in the marketplace and North Carolina is pretty close to Virginia, that's the route I'd go in your shoes (easy to spend someone else's money, but they are a huge upgrade over even factory Rubicon 44's)

$1600 minimum if you do the work yourself and retain the crap 3.45 gears though? It's great that the option exists but seems like an expensive way to a partial upgrade?
I couldn’t afford the Rubicon at the time I got the Sahara to get out of expensive car payments. I did blow more more money not getting the gears done when I got the locker installed because I ended up installing 4.56’s in June ‘21. 3.45’s, turbo or not, are not optimal. I didn’t see 8th gear enough.

It’s cheaper to get a Rubicon, period. If you have to work with what you have, this is an option and no axle swapping. It’ll be strong enough for 95% of the “wheelers” out there I’d wager. If someone wanted to just get the locker, get some M220 axles from a standard width axle Gladiator. They will drop right in with the right locking diff.

Id just wait until I got a D44 if I were you. Meanwhile, beat the shit out of your D35 lol.

It took me three Jeeps and lots of wasted $$$ trying to be frugal, only to learn that going with a Rubicon is the smart move.

IIRC they have thicker axle tubing, but not sure on that.

My sport is direct proof that is not the case.

Sport Altitude price 10/19/2021: $40,300
Total Mods: just under $24,000

Substantially built over a Rubi.

Price of the cheapest Rubi on the lot the day of purchase, $63,000. Still would need all the steering upgrades, axle upgrades, lift, tires etc.

If you have the funds available, building out a lower base model will always make more sense if you plan to build out a Jeep.

You know you can truss your axle and weld the tubes, which 'somewhat' negates the thicker axle tubes.

might even make it stronger.. pro tip

That's not huge. Thickness doesn't increase strength much. Tube strength goes up as the 4th power, and it is called Moment of Inertia, or Inertial Stiffness. JL vs JK:

3.14159265 × (D4 - d4) ÷ 64
(70^4 - 63.65^4) ÷ (62.5^4 - 56.15^4) × 100% = +43% stiffer (JL axle)

Does the XR axles still have the weak FAD cover?

  1. Op want's Rubi specs, not Substantially built over a Rubi.
  2. You can order a new JLUR for for $55K MSRP and then get 3-5% off. I paid $41K for my 2021 JLR.
  3. You don't get 4:1 xfer case or body colored top, both show stoppers for me.
  4. Even if you want to go to tons like I plan, you can sell the Rubi axles in days. will always make more sense is false for me.
  5. Dynatrack went the cheap route to save pennies and lives with 2.71 vs 4:1 xfer case. They recommended I do the same to maybe save pennies.

You can still add the transfer case and rubi axles much cheaper.
