I have a fill of M1 Supercar 0w40 in there now, which is a M1 euro oil derivative. It has a couple thousand on it and I'm going to change it before the Rubicon trip in a few weeks, with M1 ESP 0w30 which has a 12 cst @ 100C.
keep us informed on your findings when you switch. I was going to go with that oil, but wanted a thicker oil to quiet down the startups on my JL 3.6 as I sometimes dont use it for a few days and that cam phaser / chain rattle noise is a little mind numbing. What can I say It helps my Jeep OCD,,,,lol
I had run a couple fills of M1 ESP 0w30 in my last 3.6 before it blew. I know that's no consolation, but it works fine, runs quiet. This M1 Supercar just has "super" pricing and it currently runs about $50 for oil. I can get M1 ESP 0w30 for about half that and change it @ 2000-3000 miles. I do believe I use my jeep in "extreme conditions" when I wheel it in the dirt/dusty conditions and a shorter interval has typically been recommended by vehicle manufacturers in such conditions. So that's what I do.
I got the blessing from my dealership to run that oil and keep my cams, phasers, oil control valves etc repair warranty.
Currently have 0w40 in mine. No issues. I ran 0w30 without issues as well. I think I may have run 5w30 in the original engine long ago.
I run 5W30 in our 3.6 engines both the original 3.6 and the PUG. But we live in hot as hell Phoenix. If we lived in a cooler climate, then I would run 0W30. Some like the 0W20, because of the FED's CAFE, the factory recommends it. Some are concerned about the tighter tolerances in the PUG engine. But I have not heard of any of the PUG engines failing, running 5W30.
How do you think the two compare? After my repair warranty runs out, it’ll be an option to consider.
From all that I've read on the M1 Supercar 0w40, it was an oil based on ESP 0w40, Mobil even published to that effect. M1 ESP 0w30 has a 100C viscosity of 12 cst, which is at the upper end of a 30 grade oil. M1 Supercar 0w40 has a 100C viscosity of around 14 cst (don't quote me).
