I ran old school hypoid gear oil in my 79 El Camino for at least 200,000 miles and it was fine. I buttoned it up, filled and ran another 300,000 before I sold it.Not really, run the gear oil for long enough and you will get grease![]()
I remember it was not recommended to use Pennzoil on the west coast especially in California because of the climate differences than the east coast. They said that Pennzoil was one of the best for the East Coast.Yeah I think some penzoil use natural gas to make oil, dont know how. I remember in the 70s no one wanted penzoyl as the oil had more wax or something.
I'd use either today.
Also, 0w-20 is "recommended."

Those base stocks derived from natural gas are known as GTL’s if you come across that term.Yeah I think some penzoil use natural gas to make oil, dont know how. I remember in the 70s no one wanted penzoyl as the oil had more wax or something.

My understanding is that Pennsylvania crude oil has a high "wax" content, as with many things some people liked that and others hated it. I do remember back in the early '80s I was helping a buddy rebuild an engine he bought, and when I pulled the heads the valves had so much deposits that it almost completely filled the pocket. I can't remember exactly what I said, but in response he came over, looked, and said "Yep. They must have used Quaker State oil."Yeah I think some penzoil use natural gas to make oil, dont know how. Could be some truth to that, But Im still using my Mobil 1 ........... 0w-40 European Car Oil My 3.6 non e-torqe engine runs smooth and quiet, and noticed if a few days go buy when my jeep sits unused, i dont get that nasty timing chain noise on startup. It is my top choice oil. It's not looking like oil will save our 3.6 cams.
