It’s not a sports car, though. I shift mine at 2500 most of the time, and it’s silky smooth. If I need to come up to speed very quickly I’ll maybe rev it out to 4000, but no where near redline. I mean, in 4lo you’re going to rev out a bit, but I think your expectations are off on this one.
Looks like the Pedal Commander does address (solve) this issue. Not sure though.

I agree that throttle calibration seems pretty poor. It's way too sensitive at low throttle input in my opinion. That being said, I have never noticed any knocking/low idle when letting off the throttle or RPM being stuck high for several seconds. I don't usually shift above 3500 RPM though.

I've noticed the RPM hang, but that's easily solved by getting off the go pedal a bit before clutching to upshift. Used to this phenomenon in my Forester. Note: not that it will help anyone else, but my experience with drive by wire has been that the best results are achieved by using the least amount of pedal necessary to reach the desired RPMs.

Driving the Jeep like the truck it is - always smooth as silk. Try to drive it like like a sports car - not so great.

My JLUR has this exact same issue. I've got about 1200 miles on it. It's super annoying, and I've found when it happens while slowing to a stop I often hear an awful sound.. I typically drive with ESS off (when I remember to turn it off) and it almost sounds like the Jeep is about to turn off / stall, but catches itself.. My clutch pedal is very gritty / crunchy as well. I had it at the dealer a few days ago and of course "nothing is wrong"... Trying to decide if I should take it back in or of I will be wasting an entire day to get told they can't duplicate the issue.

I just posted in a different thread but I'll post my results here also . ok I installed the pedal commander yesterday and it solves alot of the sluggishness. I did a test drive in all modes (over a 100 miles) and there is a huge improvement, seems like a new vehicle. I leave it in city mode +1 and thats good enough for me. In sport s mode is was like my BMW on the highway but too quirky in the city. Definitely worth the money the jeep seems alive now. It doesn't resolve the RPM hang but definitely makes it much more fun to drive. I ordered directly from the site plus I entered a 20% off coupon code . I didn't think it would have made much of a difference from a simple product. It should have come from jeep this way vs them trying to underperform our engines for MPG

Just an update on this as I haven't seen anything posted in a long time. I had TSB 18-041-18 REV B. done on my JLUR, which takes care of the jet engine-like fan noise and a few other things. This seems to have mostly fixed my strange RPM issues that were happening on most down shifts (RPMs would drop to below idle, the engine would sound like it was going to stall, then rev itself back up to around 1500 RPM). They just pushed me this update yesterday, so I'll follow up if the issues return.

Ordered July 2018, received August 14th or 15th 2018.
Hmmm thanks for the info, my build date is Aug 18th (2018) and I can't for the life of me to get them to apply this TSB at the dealership. They keep saying it doesn't apply, but it definitely has all of the symptoms that you have outlined. Jet engine blower when I turn up the fan, and also the strange throttle blip when your RPMs get low in a down shift. I have another appointment Monday to try and address it again... so we'll see.

I told my service guy all of my symptoms and he said if I didn't already have the update they would just put in the file that it was to solve the excessive fan noise issues and do the update. Of note, the fan is totally normal sounding now.

The dealership was finally able to apply the update after saying it didn’t apply to my vin the past 3 trips. The jet engine fan is gone and the engine definitely behaves more normally when the RPMs get lower. Thanks for your updates, they gave me what I needed to stay on it with the dealer!

Special thanks to all you fellow jeepers...

Super helpful..

I too am dealing with rev matching and delays aka lag of ~10-30 secs after downshift (AT) before real engine braking... in fact in some cases in low range the "down shift" causes the JL to accelerate.. Thus causing me to use the hill decent feature more than I want.. or slam the brakes on..

Another issue is in 1st gear low range the JL is totally lethargic due to throttle mapping.. thus I drive mostly in 2nd gear on the tough stuff.. very responsive in that gear..

the only thing I find 1st gear good for is beating my MT comrades in a slow race :) (sorry I could not resists !, love you MT guys)

I cant wait for Jeep to fix this.. But in all fairness to Jeep I have not detailed out this issue and use case..

But it does bug me that I need to after spending so much $..

Rant off..

Keep up the good work Jeep!

here is a great example of the poor software in the JL... see min mark 7:3

I just spent a couple days fighting the same exact issue with my JL... not cool...

I will be submitting this to Jeep for answers...

I don't need a computer limiting my decisions on wheel speed.. I need an "off switch" .. I am cool with a rev limiter, but that it is it...
