Looking for new tires

My JL is about ready for tires soon, they are the original tires that came with the car when I purchased last year (got it used). They have about 50k miles on them, and I might be able to get a couple more months out of them. My only concern with them is it seems that they are starting to have some “sun rot” since it is originally from SoCal and was parked outside. So just been hunting a bit for tires. I found 2 that seem pretty good, after discounts and rebates there’s only $75 difference.

Tires are:
- Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtremes
- Kumho Road Venture AT52

Both seem good to me. I am currently rocking Nitto RidgeGrapplers, I have been happy with them expect I want 3peak tires since I use my Jeep in the snow a bit. I know they are M+S, but I just prefer to have a 3peak. I am open to other tire suggestions and want to hear any feedback if anyone else has used these tires. My tire size is 35x12.50xR17LT and would like to at least get another 50k miles out of the next set.

315/70R17 is a metric near equivalent to the tire size you have, so that will expand your options.

Both tires you listed are very good. I'm going to need some tires soon, and I keep coming back around to the Toyo Open Country AT III. Look at the offerings from Yokohama and Pirelli too.

I took a look at the metric equivalents and couldn’t find much at Discount Tire, but I’ll keep shopping around. I found the Toyo Open Country AT3s. I know someone with Toyo Open Country ATs (not sure if they are 3s). They have it on 2014 Ford F150 and have been happy with them so far, they’ve put a lot of highway miles on them (not off roaders), would I think they have over 70k miles on them but they are about ready to be replaced. Thanks for your feedback!

Take a look at the wild peak AT's. Snow rated. Pretty affordable.

The new KO3s should be out in more sizes sometime this month. KO2s are pretty good at everything but mud. KO3s should be a bit better all around after ~10 years of advancements.

Whats your budget? Are you looking for M/T's or A/T's this time around? Or does it not really matter as long as its 3PMSF?

In the A/T lineup, BFG just released the new KO3's with a new softer silicate compound that should make snow driving a bit easier, and Falken just recently released their new AT4W's that are both 3PMSF.

Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T's are 3PMSF under 12.5 width.

Nitto and Toyo are sister companies, Nitto being the more expensive of the 2. I've heard great things about the Toyo OpenCountry A/T's & M/T's and they're both 3PMSF as well.

From what I understand, A/T tires are better for snow than mud tires, as you want some of the powder to get stuck in the sipes and tread blocks as snow sticks to snow better and M/T tires have a tendency to shed snow more. Food for thought when you're making your selection. Personally, I don't feel you can go wrong with any of these. They're all outstanding tires.

Budget wise, I want to stay under or close to $1500 and would prefer to be closer to $1000 but I want high quality tires that will latest another 50k miles or more. I also plan on replacing all 5, as I want to rotate all 5 in for even tread wear, not sure if it recommended or not but I figure that it makes sense to for keeping tread wear the same. Honestly the longer the better, this year I plan to put probably close to 5k miles on my Jeep this summer (long trip with mostly highway and off-roading) and then after that it probably won’t be driven that much, as it will be back at University so she’ll be sitting a lot until the following summer where I’ll rack up miles again. 3PMSF is must, I plan to go with to mountains in the winter for snowboarding. I have chains for it too, and my current Nitto have done well in the snow without chains.

Yeah I was looking at BFG and Wildpeaks. I have Wildpeaks on a 2020 Chevy Blazer and I like them and they work great in the snow, it just they are a bit out of budget. I couldn’t find any KO2 in my area at good price. KO3 are also a bit out of budget.

The Mickey Thompson tires are good but they are also out of budget too.

I have seen that ATs are better in the snow compared to MTs. Not really partial the one type or the other. I also saw that MTs are a bit better at off-roading. I saw these and potentially thinking about going with these. For the price they seem hard to beat.
Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT - seen a mix of good and neutral reviews on these. I think they are 3PMSF, not a 100% sure. I’ve seen they are and I have also seen that they are not, it’s not advertised on Discount Tire with it having them.

MTs are by design not great in snow. A good mud tire releases everything it can. A good snow tire holds onto everything it can.

MTs are by design not great in snow. A good mud tire releases everything it can. A good snow tire holds onto everything it can.
Yup which makes sense, they are engineered to perform as great mud and rock tires. I have seen a few 3PSMF.

Honestly, for $1500, if you lived close to me, I'd sell you my KO2's (6800mi) if you were interested. I'd love to get a full set of 35" Baja Boss's or Wildpeak M/T's.

I think you might be hard pressed to get a full brand new set of 5 35" tires for under $1500. Could you maybe get 4 for the time being and save up for the last one, since it wont be used immediately anyways?

I would consider it, but I live out nearby Portland, Oregon. I’ve been looking mostly at Discount Tire since I have military discount and they do AAA discount (not 100% sure they still do AAA but both are 5% each), which bring the two I have been looking at really close to $1500.

Have you considered looking at used? There's guys on here all the time selling tires. Unfortunately I'm in Texas, so too far to drive for a meet up without wasting an entire weekend. If I was working a deal with someone, the farthest I could realistically make it over a weekend is Denver.

Have you considered looking at used? There's guys on here all the time selling tires. Unfortunately I'm in Texas, so too far to drive for a meet up without wasting an entire weekend. If I was working a deal with someone, the farthest I could realistically make it over a weekend is Denver.
I’ll check around the forum to see if I can find anything, Marketplace and OfferUp locally don’t have anything. Too bad, I would hate to make you drive far, I am sure someone locally will buy it. I could have it installed locally at Discount Tire or I think even Walmart does it too.

That is something I have thought about, but I personally think it's weird to have one different tire compared to the rest. It just offsets it, maybe I am a bit too picky ?. I was originally think of getting another set of Nitto RidgeGrappler like what I have, but $378 a piece is expensive for non 3PSMF tires.
