First post here. Been doing what it seems most of American is doing..... trying to find a new Wrangler. Wow, I find one and poof... it’s gone in a couple of days. We are looking for a unlimited High Altitude.... but not sure which driveline to get. It will never be off road. It’s going to be an extra car, although I’m willing to bet my wife will drive it daily. Might take it on a highway trip once and a while(I know not what they excel in). We love the idea of the Sky One Touch roof. Any advise is welcome!

Welcome aboard. If you are able to wait you're more likely to get below MSRP if you order. What we've seen in our area is that vehicles are selling while in transit, before they show up.

Welcome to the forums. My advice would be to order one the way you want it. The 2022's will be out soon.

I have the SOT, while it is very cool to just push a button and the top is open, it does add $$ to cost not to mention the potential for something to break on it. With that being said, I have a hardtop on my other Jeep and never take it off because it is too d@mn hot here to justify removing and putting back on. I also live in a condo with a small garage so space is limited.

Welcome to the forum.

You might have better luck scoring a Wrangler if you stop calling it “a car.” ?

Good luck.

Thanks for your responses. Anyone have any input on the engine choice? There are quite a few 4xe's around that seem to be available. I understand that other than the full electric mode and having more combined power, it actually gets less gas mileage?
The 4 turbo sounds like it isnt any better for mpg than the V6 out in the real world.
The diesel intrigues me. I had an Excursion Diesel 20 years ago and loved it. But again this Jeep will be mainly a cruiser. Perhaps a highway trip here and there.
I appreciate any input.

Our current and first ever Jeep, is a 2020 4 door. When we were looking I knew I wanted lockers which I learned at the time, limited the selection to Rubicon’s. We drove a V6 and the 2.0T and couldn’t really tell a difference “pep-wise” so went with the 2.0T because it had the larger 8.4” screen (embarrassing I know).

After being on here a while I learned that not all 2.0T Jeeps are created equal - ours is an eTorque. Most people on here bash the 2.0T as well as eTorque but I love the combination because the eTorque makes the automatic start stop a non-issue. It also removes the dreaded auxiliary battery. Sometimes I turn ESS off but usually I don’t.

The 2.0T gets good combined mileage which came down to ~18.5 after a lift and 35” tires. At altitude the turbo minimizes power loss where normally aspirated engines can suffer. When going slower than 60 my MPG goes back up to almost 20. I think the V6 is close mileage wise.

We love this thing so much we traded in my RAM 2500 with a Cummins diesel for a 3.0T diesel JLURD. My biggest concern with it is that it doesn’t have eTorque. I’ll have to worry about startup lag when the engine has shut off and the pesky little auxiliary battery.

In my opinion, with all things considered, the diesel is the best choice right now. It’s a shame the 2020 2.0T eTorque is no longer offered and a shame they don’t slap a turbo on the V6 which now has eTorque.

I am sure mine is not the most popular opinion but, we have the V6 manual in a 2 door, the epitome of a "fun Jeep". I MUCH prefer the V6 to the 4cyl for smoothness and sound. I MUCH prefer the manual to the automatic for driving involvement. Even living at high altitude (8000 ft) I do not find the V6 the least bit lacking for power and over the 2600 miles we have owned it the average MPG on the monitor is 24.4 I would never choose the diesel or the 4xe for sheer complexity sake. Chances are you want an automatic and that you will never find a six speed on a lot anywhere but I think the smooth, powerful, proven reliable V6 is by far the best choice.

I think 4Xes are great for first time Wrangler buyers who have no preconceptions of how a Wrangler drives or ought to feel.

I test drove a 4Xe a couple of months ago and I liked it, but I couldn’t justify getting rid of my lifted Wrangler V6 with barely 6,500 miles to get another Wrangler with a 2.0T and an electric motor.

If they are available and dealers are not gouging, I say go for it!

Hunting for a used unicorn will cause you to go mad. Place a new order in with exactly what you want from a local dealer and then just wait for the arrival. Remove the stress. I just experienced a double fingered FU this week despite throwing money at the dealer as they sold it from under me.

If you want the 2018-2020 colors, then just scratch that idea and get a white or gray jeep. That's about where I'm at now. I'm sitting around for Oct to see if FCA introduce something better than gecko and pink barbie wagon. Use extreme caution and strong influence for anything out of state as they'll screw you over in a heartbeat vs what's around your corner.

I’ve got a brand new 2 door, manual, ordered through Mike at Lakeland Dodge. You should take a look at Ratberts list pinned somewhere and pick a dealer close to you. Huge savings off shopping the lot.
