Lockers MIL flashing

Well it has happened to me, and fortunately it still in warranty. On the way to a meeting last night I got the flashing MIL for the rear lockers. I was in traffic so flicked the switch a few times and it went out. On my way home to started again but this time it stayed on. So looks like a trip to dealer. Hopefully they can just replace the sensor.

When mine done this, they replaced the whole axle.

Awhile back Joe, a few years I think, Stellantis was finally able to acquire just the sensors, for replacement. Prior to that they could not, and had to replace the entire axle assembly whenever a sensor went bad.

It was a while ago that they replaced my axle. Good to know that they can get the sensors now.

It's happened twice to me and my 2023 JLU...first time was around 8k miles and it took a couple months and two new axles....then just a couple weeks ago at 43k. The second time they had the sensors in stock and replaced that and the wiring harness...

Since I'm getting towards the end of the power train warranty I debated saying screw it and just going with air lockers as I'm considering changing a few other thing out....but in the end I felt like the bean counters can pay for the part one more time since they decided it was cheaper to keep replacing parts rather than fixing the design so this doesn't happen.

I hope you have better luck with your dealer than I did. I had a sensor fail on my 2021, but it wasn't covered by warranty. I had to pay $130 diagnostic charge to find out electrical components aren't covered. My warranty is the highly touted, per the dealership, Mopar Certified Preowned warranty. My Jeep had a little over 30k miles when I took it in.

The sensor kit cost me $143 with shipping, and potting epoxy was another $25. I'm planning on changing differential fluid in a few hundred miles and will replace the sensor at that time.

Pot the sensors. I did this at my 1st gear oil change. I'm at 73k miles and my lockers lock and unlock faster than before potting them

The thing is I don‘t do any heavy off road stuff. I do run logging roads once in awhile and we live on a pretty rough dirt road but nothing bad. I’ll give the local dealer a call, hate to drive to selling seller twice for this.

The oil is flinging around inside the diff and on to the locker position sensor regardless of whether you ever engage the lockers. The locker position sensor housing is poorly bonded together allowing oil and small metal particles inside the housing and on the electronic components inside the locker. You could never ever engage the lockers and have the sensor fail or give intermittent false messages

This problem has nothing to do with off roading or not. It has everything to do with oil intrusion to the sensor.

Potting the sensor will no longer allow oil in. I guess technically it's small metal particles in the oil that intruders the sensor causing the circuit board to short.

I made an appointment this AM for next week at local dealer. They said it’s covered under 36k miles warranty, not drive train. Didn’t matter, it’s still under warranty until July then ext. Warranty kicks in. I didn’t argue about the drive train warranty as it’s still under bumper to bumper. They want it for overnight.

I dropped the Jeep off at the dealer this morning. Told them what I thought the problem was and got the usual spiel .
surprisingly I called them after lunch and the service advisor said the problem was exactly what I described, they usually never admit you’re right.
They actually had the parts in stock and it might be done today but I doubt it. Was told when one sensor goes bad they now have a kit where they change both Sensors.
at least now I won’t have to change the diff fluid. Covered under bumper to bumper warranty, so I guess I will just have to pay for fluids, maybe.

if they drain the fluids they replace them under the warranty.
