Just bought a JLU Sahara this past Saturday. Automatic. Put 600 miles on it. Wednesday night went to shift it to park and only got up to neutral position. Could not shift to R then P. Could not shift it back to D. Front dash reads "Service Shifter" - flashing. The N is also flashing by the gear shifter. Could not disengage with the interior pull or from under the jeep.

Had to have it towed to the dealership. If anyone has dealt with this, let me know what the issue was. Dealership hasn't had the ability to look at it yet.

I'm having the same issue this morning. I got the "Service Shifter" message while driving. When I got to work and my parking spot I shifted to R and nothing. N was blinking. Tried to push it back into spot but it wouldn't roll either. The tow truck tried the manual disengage but it didn't work. Roadside assistance and @ my local dealer. We will see what they have to say.

The part to fix this issue is on back order and we are on almost 2.5 weeks of no jeep. We owned the jeep for less than 4 days and it has been in the shop since June 6th not happy!

I have this same issue... I had to disconnect the battery to get it to come out of neutral.

To me, all of these symptoms seem of a computer issue not a real physical shifter issue. I am wondering if the 'fix' is just updating the system with an update and it fixes it. This is more and more common I've seen with the entire jeep wrangler/cherokee family.

Mine has happened 4 times now a few hours after I've washed the vehicle, so I suspect a loose connection or incorrectly sealed boot. I tightened as many connections as I could see.

You are probably right. I have also heard it could be a loose fuse not seated correctly.

There were a lot of my fuses not seated all the way, but I pushed most of them back in.

Is it still going on after the reseats of the fuses? (I wonder if also the fuses that control this are faulty.

Yeah, it's happened a couple times after that.

My suspicion on this is that after the engine warms up a bit it works. After you turn it off and back on again that is. If anyone has it happen and happens to read this try letting it run for 5 minutes or so and shut it off, then try again. I just dropped mine off or I would check. Also it's hot back in NC. It happened to me when it was about 65-70 degrees out, so not crazy cold.
