Locker Position Sensor Potting - DANA 44

OK, I had the day today to do this testing and potting. I tested all 5 sensors. Sensors 1,3,5 all worked! The flashing lights vanished. Hooray! Sensors 2 and 4 did not do squat. So, I drilled and potted sensor #1. After drilling the 3 holes prior to potting... I put the sensor back in the truck to test it one more time, Success! So potted #1 sensor. Putting truck back together in the morning.

So....I put it all back together this morning. Start the Jeep, no lights I think all is good, put it in Reverse and it starts flashing again. Drive around the block and come to a stop, put in Park and it stops flashing. Put it back in Drive and again it starts flashing. Driving further the flashing shuts itself off while cruising at 45 mph, but when the truck comes time to stop...the flashing is back.

I think I am still under warranty so I may give them a call. Normally I don't like the Jeep dealership working on my trucks, that's why I wanted to do this preventative maintenance, to avoid having to deal with them.

Now the flashing is intermittent , it seems.
Jeeze, I feel terrible about all this.

Question is: If I take to the dealer will they see the potted sensor and blame that as the cause? Or do I put sensor #2 that is new and un-potted....before taking it in to the dealer?

I wouldn't give my dealer an opportunity to deny a warranty claim. I bought my Jeep used with 25K miles and a Mopar CPO extended warranty. When my sensor went bad, the charged me ~$140 diagnostic fee only to tell me it was the $8 rubber seal on the differential, and the sensor is electronic and not covered.

Well stranger things will happen...I have to tell you about today. So, I started the JT this morning and it was flashing at me. I had to go out to a friends house which is an hour away...so I just started heading his way with the stupid dash flashing at me. 2 miles from my house it stops flashing...and never went back to flashing the whole 1 hour ride out to Keenesburg CO. Coming back home. I started the JT up to come home, No Flashing lights. Drove back home and all is good no Flashing lights! Just before getting home I pulled into a parking lot near the house and put the JT in 4L and hit the Locker button..Flashed at me and it went into Locked mode, all good. Then back to 2H and it switched and the flashing lights went off. Drove the rest of the way home with all operating as normal.

Is it fixed??? Did it need to "Learn"??? Did it need to be "cycled" into 4L and engage the locker a few times???

Not taking it into the dealer now. This is all strange, but Hey...it's potted and its working just as it should. Very Strange.

When my sensor started to go, I could drive 10+ minutes before the light came on. Then 5+ minutes, to light came on instantly when I started the engine.

Fixing electronics is very frustrating.

First they wanted $349.00 so they could remove the diff cover, Then they told me that I "Voided" my warranty because I installed aftermarket differential covers. That I pinched the wires when installing the PPE differential covers and therefore they want $4000.00 and change to fix the problem. This is complete BS. I never pinched any wires, they are full of it. Not sure what to do now.

Just bypass it. That’s what I did and it works like a charm.

My experience with the JL/JT locker system tells me there are at least two possibilities, maybe 3.

My locker started flashing the dash light whenever, I'd try to lock the axles. I pulled the sensors, removed the covers and flushed the circuit boards out, then potted them. I still got the flashing light and I noted that the front locker wasn't engaging.

I bought a Z-Automotive locker position sensor bypass and installed it. No joy.

I tested the locker coil solenoid by putting power directly to the coil connector. At first it actuated the locker. After repeated switching it started to show it was intermittent. Another possibility is that the connector to the sensor is shorted by metallic debris or the internal harness is shorted.

I have a ‘22 Rubicon and the dash light and light by rear locker switch has started to flash. 1 have less than 19,000 mi but out of warranty based on time.
So since light is flashing does that mean that it is too late for the rear sensor to do this fix? Do I need to purchase a new sensor? Are the new sensors the same bad design and need to be potted?
Is there a chance Jeep will cover this repair based on all the problems they have had and the low mi?

On my 19, I pulled the sensor that was acting up drilled the holes and flushed it out real good with electronics cleaning spray. Then blew it out with compressed air and let it set for a couple days. Potted it and it is still going strong.

This should be covered under the drivetrain warranty.

Yes, it’s likely too late for the potting to do anything.

New sensors for your axle have not been improved upon. If you do your own sensor replacement, you’ll need to pot the working set.

2024 and up have a new design completely and are sealed.
