OP here:

I want 37’s but also like the poke…

Also I realize I’m pushing it with my gearing set up for 37’s.


I’m thinking of going with the 35 Baja boss MT’s…they are still a little bigger (currently running the 315 falkins that measure about 33.5” and weigh 73lbs) at 34.5” (is what I’m seeing online) and weigh about 66lbs. So a tire that’s 7lbs lighter, one inch taller and a mud terrain…also a load range D tire. I think this will give me some decent offroad traction and still give me a slightly larger tire without having to regear. Also sounds like if you do a 5 tire rotation you get about 45k miles out of that specific MT which sounds decent to me.

Still would like that 37’s but if I want to do that right I’m looking at about a $5500 drop for a regear and tires. I won’t do a regear myself.
When you buy them, go to Discount Tire and:

  • Find the cheapest price elsewhere. They'll match.
  • Don't take their first full coverage offer. They'll eventually drop it to only the cost of two tires instead of five.

  • Find the cheapest price elsewhere. They'll match.
  • Don't take their first full coverage offer. They'll eventually drop it to only the cost of two tires instead of five.
I was looking and it looks like northridge and it looks like they’re almost $400 less than discount tire . I could have my local Walmart install them for $20 a tire seems like that would a pretty decent deal. Does northeidge give forum discounts?

I’ve been looking at tires for a while now… I would like to move up to 37s once my KO2s wear out. I currently have a ‘24 Rubicon X with stock 315/70R17 and 4:88 gears. I’m wanting to go to an R/T tire. Not really interested in a M/T. I’m also weight conscious and want to keep it as light as possible. I’m not sure I want to stay with the KO2s either. They are rock magnets, and I drive a lot of gravel roads.

In my research, I’ve been compiling a list of tires and their weights. Most of these are A/T or R/T tires as those are what I’m more interested in. There are a few M/Ts there for comparisons.

Currently, the top of my list are the Toyo R/T Trail or R/T Pros.

What I find interesting is that there are several tires that are D rated that are heavier than others that are E rated. For instance:
  • Nitto Ridge Grapplers 37 D = ~81.5 lbs
  • Nitto Recon Grapplers 37 D = ~75.75 lbs
  • Toyo Open Country R/T Trail 37 E = ~75 lbs
I would venture to say that all 3 are virtually the same tire. Or at least have the same carcass. I’m guessing the Ridge Grapplers are heavier due to the deeper tread depth. So, the question is… Would you go with a heavier D rated tire? Or a lighter E rated tire?

It seems that more and more tire companies are upping their ply ratings. And does appear that most are catering to the HD truck crowd. Which is unfortunate...

I had Maxxis RAZR AT 37s that were D rated on my old Jeep. Now, that same tire can only be found as E rated. It appears that the specs are more/less the same. So how is it that D rated tire weighs in as much as the E rated tire?


Background experience with tires:

My previous Jeep was a ’16 JKU on 37s (also 4:88 gears). Originally it had 35 E-rated Cooper STT Pros. Nice tire off-road. But after about 10k miles, they got extremely loud. Switched to Nitto RGs (35 E). Really liked those both on and off-road. When I switched to 37s, I went with Maxxis RAZR ATs (At the time, 37 RGs were very hard to find). The Maxxis in 37 Ds were ~4lbs lighter than the 35 E RGs. My Jeep seemed a lot happier with the 37s. I really believe that was due to the weight difference.

be sure you factor in the extra shipping charge. in small print the add $50 a tire for oversize shipping...which makes DT cheaper where I am at..DT has them at $419 vs $457 after shipping added...they actually weigh right at 71lbs on my accurate bike scale and measure 33.6" when mounted on the jeep at 28 psi....off the jeep are right at 34.7"

saw these the other day and took a photo...they look pretty nice (they are 18" tho)...that said my buddy bought a set and did not like them he said they really wandered...on his 2024 XR...

saw these the other day and took a photo...they look pretty nice (they are 18" tho)...that said my buddy bought a set and did not like them he said they really wandered...on his 2024 XR...

That's interesting. We have a set of Toyo RT Trail tires on my wife's Gladiator. I thought they were much better on road than the Nitto Trail Grappler's they replaced, with less wander and a lot less noise.

That's interesting. We have a set of Toyo RT Trail tires on my wife's Gladiator. I thought they were much better on road than the Nitto Trail Grappler's they replaced, with less wander and a lot less noise.
Same here. I’m about 22k into my Toyo OC RT Trails and love them.

Dang! Okay good to know! Size is kind of a bummer….is 28 the sweet spot for them? I haven’t chalk tested my falkins but was running between 30-32 and recently inflated to 34 and my MPG’s got way better. I was really hoping for a taller more aggressive tire

about the only 35's you will get that will be bigger is maybe an Interco SS or pit bull...I have checked all different psi and 28-30psi just work...perfect wear and smooth ride. I have never had luck with the chalk test and for me i find the 10% rule works with every tire i have had which is many.

Chris, this is Toyo’s newest tire - the Open Country R/T Pro. It’s a hybrid MT, and they have a 45,000 mile warranty. I LOVE these tires! I do not know if they offer them in a lower load range, though (these are E-rated).

The pictured tire on my Jeep is 35x12.50R17, on the stock 7.5” rims.

I’m guessing you won’t find a more aggressive hybrid tire than these.
