2022 - JL. I have halogen bulbs and want LED. I’m not quite sure why individuals get new headlight and fog light housings to go with the bulb instead of just the new bulb itself. What am I missing?

A full LED housing probably works a little better but at 10-20x the cost. That being said, I put Beamtech LED's in my halogen assemblies two years ago and they still work great. 10x better than the lousy halogens and only cost me $35.

The light cutoff on my garage wall was identical to the halogens as well, and nobody has flashed me at night in almost 2 years of driving with them.

They are cheap enough to try them out first if you want, and if you're not happy then spend the megabucks on full LED replacements. Someday I might if these bulbs die, but I am more than happy with their performance so far.

I've always just bought LED bulbs on my vehicles and I will on my new Jeep as I like the look of the old school halogen housings on the Jeep rather than the goofy projector lenses.

LED’s won’t work properly in a halogen housing.

Before anyone goes on a rant and calls BS, I didn’t say they won’t work, they just won’t work as well as they should with a properly designed housing/reflector assembly (though I will say that the conversion bulbs are much better now than they were even a couple of years ago).
Some people are ok with “good enough”.

You will get better light with LED bulbs in halogen casings but it won’t be great and has potential to have bad cut off and bad beam pattern.

shop around and you can find some moderately priced LED’s and be much happier. This coming from someone that has tried both

I think some people are ok with good enough + cheap enough .. LOL..

I use these cheap Auxbeam LED bulbs.. I like them because they do not have a cooling fan that can fail ... but rather solid heat dissipation fins.. I drive my jeep with the headlights on all the time... 3 years with the same bulbs, no issues so far, and no people flashing me

To Jaymz's point, a LED bulb replacement won't work as well as a purposely designed LED housing... in my case in particular the Low beam is pretty good.. but High beam projects a blurry beam... not really that usable ...
