I bought 5 BFG KM3 37x12.5 new tires from Discount Tire (and wheels) and 4 of them were load range D and one was load range C. Gave them a ring and they will get me another D and swap it out,… but since when did the KM3 37x12.5 come in load range C?!? If I’d known that I would asked for 5 of those!

I wasn’t aware either, I would have gone with those instead of the 37s Ko2s in Load C.

When I look them up on DT, C is not an option.

@Discount Tire any info on these? They're not even on the BFG website 🤷‍♂️

I might be wrong but aren’t those the raptor spec tires? They’re supposed to be lighter.
The two Raptor-spec tires are both KO2s, unless Ford's come out with a new option that isn't on their website.

Is that because weaker is better
It’s because C is closer rated for the weight of the vehicle. A rock that cuts through a C will probably cut right through an E too. BFG Krawlers only come in C, must be some weak stuff right?

BFG's part number for the 37x12.50R-17 LR-C KM3 is 79293. I reached out to BFG customer service and the CSR I spoke with stated this is not a "discontinued" part number, however it hasn't been available for sometime and that there are no planned production dates for replacement inventory.

I can't say I've actually sold a set of these, so this one is a mystery. I'll see if I can find out any more information from our product team.

Note that the production date on the C rated tire was 4422 (guessing that is Oct/Nov of 2022)…. Discount Tire has since replaced it with a D rated tire, so I know there is at least one back in their stock :)

You do want to standardize on C or D.
Load Range C is going to give you an 6 Ply (RATING) at max psi of 50

Load Range D is going to give you an 8 Ply (RATING) at max psi of 65

Do you go C or D that is the question? How much off-road do you do and on what kind of terrain?

Less could be more for you if you do light OR and just looking for a good tire and a good ride. On the other hand more could be better if you are hitting the trails often.

NOTE 50/65 psi is MAX psi and its up to you to find your contact patch and adjust the psi. I will hazard a guess your psi for the D would be 28-34 and the C 32-36.

I went with D since the C aren’t supposed to exist and may be problematic if I ever sliced one and needed to replace just one tire. And the ride (@30psi) has been great with the KM3 D rated tires, I think it rides slightly more plush than my KO2 35s C rated (@ 34psi) w/o being squirly in the corners (KO2s were not as planted at 30 psi).

Nope, many more plys to cut through on the tread and more on the side wall too.

LOL not hardly. My "E" GY Duratrac's are 8 ply tread and 6 ply side wall. These are a true 8/6, NOT rated at 8/6, there is a difference. The difference is in the plys and how they are built. Some have thicker strands and they rate as a if it was an 8 ply, some are actually 8 plys or 6 as the case. Optimally you want an actual number of plys vs a rated ply.

8 ply vs RATED 8 ply true 4 ply. The big difference is puncture resistance. You have 8 plys to go thru vs 4 plys with bigger strands to = rated 8 ply.

Where you almost always see it is on cheaper tires...
