Strange FOB issue. never damaged, but out of the blue when I use it to unlock or lock the doors it sets off the alarm. 2018 JLUR. The other one thankfully works just like it always has.
I tried changing the battery, no good. It will shut off the alarm but its a crazy do what it wants to situation. Any sugestions? Please

@LarryB

The RFID chip in question is not on the JL/JLU/JT fob's circuit board, it is totally independent. See pic I posted above. The fob's RFID chip is quite stout and pretty resistant to damage...

In this pic, see the RFID chip residing up top, above the circuit board....to the left of the hole.... totally independent of the circuit board.

I have the XTOOL D8. I lost one of my keys a few weeks ago. I have looked but could not find it anywhere. I then decided to buy two OEM used key FOBS off of ebay for $30 each. I have never programmed a key using the D8 but I did watch some youtube vids on the general process. I have the Tazar mini installed which didn't seem to affect anything. I went through the process to program the OEM ebay keys and each time the programming failed. As I was exploring the functions in the key programming mode I saw the the D8 saw 2 keys. At this time I had my original key and the 2 ebay keys in the jeep. Why did the D8 see only 2 keys? I'll tell you why. Because it DIDN'T see the two ebay keys. It sees the two original keys. This means that the key I lost is around here somewhere. (I didn't really figure this out until after this next step) I thought that maybe the ebays keys needed to be erased. So I hit the erase key function. The D8 erased ALL KEYS. What does this mean? The D8 erased MY TWO KEYS and did nothing to the ebay keys. Yep, the other key, where ever it is was just erased. The D8 can erase any key it sees within 60 feet but to program it the key must be at the push button. How do I know? Because the D8 now sees only one key. Now I have 2 ebay keys that won't program, and I don't know why, and my original key that I was able to program after erasing and my lost key that is still lost.

Are there any techs here that could fill me in on the particulars of why a used OEM key would, or would not program?
Thanks!

update on the key programming. The ebay keys just didn't work. I paid a guy to come to my house and program those keys. He tried and couldn't. I purchased two keys from amazon (3+1 buttons) for 49.99 each. They were both made in China and they don't have the JEEP logo on the back. I programmed those with the xtool D8 in seconds. I now have three functioning keys. I then went to my local hardware store and the manager ground them both in about a minute each. He didn't charge me. WIN!

Do you have a link for the Amazon keys?

Thanks for the info. I see there is no mention of an RFID chip, maybe that's the downside of being a third party fob.

How would a key work without an RFID? my keys work exactly the same as the Jeep key fob. Remote start, remote entry, the tazer functions are the same. Wouldn't this require an RFID?

The RFID chip is what allows the fob to start the jeep when the fob battery is dead by pushing the start button with the dead fob.

Take the battery out of the fob and see if pushing the start button with the fob starts the jeep.
