Maybe I'm taking this too far or too seriously but aren't we all paying extra to Jeep for plastering their logo all over our Jeeps? Would we have the same passion for these vehicles if they were made by say, Buick? :puke:
Great question!

I’d be perfectly fine if Jeep stopped plastering its logos onto every single nut, bolt and retainer, and chopped a couple thousand off the cost of the vehicle.

Do we really need “Jeep” plastered onto all of these...?

There's got to be a difference between honoring your heritage and plain mercantilism.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I don't think anyone is buying a Jeep because the seven-slot grille in on a driveshaft.

If you want to overland in Mexico and insist on doing it in a Jeep, you're better off buying a JK.

Doing so in a brand new JL with 37s seems like asking for trouble.
AZ, NM, TX, and CA have the same pucker bushes and rocks as MX. And I like the odds of contracting an intestinal disease or parasite better in those states than MX. I want for nothing south of the border. I'm going with my gut here. :)

Except, of course, when you've been burnt by your mods not being covered by insurance. Except, of course, when you're at an age where you'd rather do other things with your time rather than sit around waiting for the various pieces to show up so you can do that big trip.

A more appropriate analogy would be going to a restaurant to have someone else prepare your meal. Can you imagine being so extravagant when you could obviously have done it yourself for so much less money?
You have options.

It is more expensive than doing the mods yourself or finding a good shop to do it for you. Let's admit that and get it out of the way. However, what you see is what you get.

If you can't be bothered with the hassle of doing the mods yourself, go for it.

There is no guarantee a shop will give you the results you are looking for. What if the steering is off when they are done? How many visits will it take to fix it?

If you can afford it and you just want a finished product, go for it.

I don't think you can justify the purchase of a Jeep from a financial aspect. Not unless you live in some far away place with is difficult to access.

People buy Jeeps because they are fun vehicles and they want to have some fun. If it will make you happy and you can afford it, go for it.

Post pictures when you have taken ownership.

2019 JLUR AEV 370
My '20 JLUR was recently totaled, so I've been trying to figure out what I'll replace it with. I'm considering buying one pre-built by AEV. Some advantages:
  • Full package
  • High quality
  • Financed into original cost
  • 3 year / 36k Warranty
  • Covered by insurance(?)
  • Love the way it looks
  • Previous incremental upgrade attempts were "challenging" to justify with the wife and were constantly being pushed back to next year
Yes, it's damn expensive, but I realized that I wouldn't be paying labor to have all of those things added over the years after purchase.

My question: how much would labor cost (wild ballpark) to install the following on a new JLUR diesel?
  • Suspension
  • 4.56 gears
  • Skid plate
  • Front and rear bumper
  • Winch
  • Tire carrier
Note that I'm talking over $15k in upgrades. Just trying to figure out if I can use the lack of labor as an additional significant justification.

First time poster, long time lurker. The thread title caught my attention and having gone through the same decision making process I thought I'd share my experience in hoping it helps you make a decision.

A 2019 JLUR is my only vehicle and a daily driver. Third Jeep overall, first being a '92 YJ. I bought the JLUR with the intent of keeping it 10 years. I have no idea what things will be like a month from now, let alone in another 8 years. For all I know this may be my last Jeep and ICE vehicle. With it being my daily driver, work schedule, and other activities, I knew no matter how much I'd like to do the work myself it would take months to get everything done. I dropped off my Jeep in the AEV lot on a Sunday afternoon and by Friday morning of the same week it was ready for pick-up.

I deliberated on the cost of the AEV package since the time of my Jeep purchase. I waited patiently for parts, reviews, and the contents of the turnkey packages. I finally pulled the trigger this spring and went with the AEV 370. In the six months of ownership so far I have no regrets. There isn't a single time where I've walked away from the Jeep in a parking lot and not turned around to look at it.

It's incredibly expensive for what it is and on top of the cost of the Rubicon itself. If you told me 20 years ago I'd be driving an automatic Jeep, with 4-doors, a minivan engine, and a final price of nearly $75k I would have had a seizure. I didn't think I would like or appreciate some of the cosmetics, but I find myself either not being bothered by them or outright liking them. Everything looks much better in person than in photos. It handled everything I threw at it while at the ORV park and I never once worried about the quality of the work done. If I take a handful of road trips across the country, see things I otherwise wouldn't with the Jeep, and enjoy my drive and time doing it then it will be well worth the cost IMO. I live pretty lean in other areas of my life and eventually I thought, why not, despite the huge price tag. I didn't want to look back in 15 years and wish I would have drove the Jeep I wanted when I had the chance.

I can attach interior/exterior pictures of the 370 build if you're interested. Good luck on whatever you decide.

I don't wrench on my DD typically...because I don't have to. I do like adding to the Jeep. It's part of the hobby. Yet sometimes time is short and I am willing to pay to avoid PITA things.

Called a local shop...got a "starting price" of $500 to install a winch. I'll be doing that myself, thanks. Some things are worth it, some aren't.
That's so crazy. A winch is very easy to install. I have the arcus stubby bumper which is a pita to install. I had to remove the whole thing, and reinstall it with the winch. Did it all by myself in 1 hr. I don't know how can a shop charge $500 that's nuts.

To add more fuel to the fire:

I went online and looked at their 2.5 lift kit, which comes with the over 15k package. The lift kit costs about 1.5k through northridge 4x4. It doesn't even come with new control arms but relocation brackets. What an absolute joke.

OP I don't care if you want your AEV conversion and sorry to kinda hijack your thread. But I feel like I need to post this for other users who are new to this and dont know better.

It is a waste of money. If you are goin with a lift kit to fit 37 inch tires go with Metalcloak or Rock Krawler. Have a shop install it for you and you will have an absolute beast for way less.

I’m not mechanically inclined either, and I have installed more bumpers and winches than I can remember. They are amongst the easiest things one can do to a Jeep.

I don't think that most people on this forum would purchase the AEV package. You are paying for the convenience of getting a Jeep that has already been modified.

If the convenience is more important to you than the cost, it makes sense.

I agree. Once you can afford it, go for it.

I don't think the average Jeeper would purchase this. However, the package is not being marketed towards the average Jeeper. There are some high net worth individuals who will buy a stock Jeep and take it straight to a shop to get it modified.

For these people, cost is not an issue.

Sometimes you need to look at things from another person's perspective. People with money view the world very differently from people who are poor or middle class.

I stumbled on another outfit that does turnkey complete JLs. I don't know if they are good, bad, or ugly.

It was really hard to say "thanks, I'll let you know" and hang up. I have money, and I can be lazy...but WTF?

I have the AEV lift. With a couple add ons. It's a DREAM. I love the ride and handling. I did the longarm thing on my TJ...I prefer the lack of joint maintenance.

Thats fine if you buy it and have a shop install it. but their 15k package is just absurd.
