After spending way too much time on here and reading about some of the options I was otherwise unaware of when I purchased my Sport S, I decided to try and alter the order by adding half doors and a premium top. Unfortunately, the order was rejected by Fiat. So the dealer went ahead and cancelled the order. I'm going in tomorrow to see if I'll be able to transfer the deposit to a new custom order or if I forfeited it by cancelling. I'll also find out if I'm able to retain the 1% below invoice, which I realize is not as good as some, but as long as I can afford it, I'm fine with it.

Now comes the real question, do I just say F it and try for the Rubicon or go with the budget Sport S model for $6k less? I'm going to need to keep the total out the door cost below $50k, and according to the Jeep configurator, I'm sitting at $45,435 before tax/license/dealer fees on the Rubicon with premium top, half doors, and gorilla glass. I do wish the XR package was available in a 2dr, but such is life.

ETA: Just realized this is probably in the wrong forum, mods feel free to move. Sorry. +(
IMO the Gorilla Glass is a total waste of money and better used on a similarly priced upgrade.

The sure fire way to make a small fortune in Jeep ownership is to start with a large fortune and then A) buy a Sport or Sahara and convert it into a Rubicon, or B) Buy a Rubicon XR and gut it to get a new lift, wheel, and tires.

I was thinking about the Gorilla Glass, what makes it a waste of money? I know nothing about glass or windshields

Was too expensive at 195 to me at 495 really, really too expensive. At least where I live.

I did not realize that the price had jumped so much!!
I still have a hard time understanding why everything is so expensive on a Jeep, they have been making the JL since 2018 and you would think that the more parts the manufacture buys the cheaper it will be, I guess they don`t pass the savings along to the customer
My 2018 JLUR was loaded and I can not believe that the prices on packages and options has gone up so much!!
I guess we will keep paying through the nose as long as you want to own a Jeep

Yep. I watched the Gorilla glass option jump from $95 to $195 to $495 in the span of a few months.

A 2022 JLU Sport that is identical to my 2021 config is now $2.1K more expensive. The net cost of the 2.0T/850RE pairing is $500 higher, and the 7" Uconnect 4 is now standard. That leaves ~$1.4K as the cost to play this game.

Here's my take on it:
The price I see today for [whatever] likely won't ever be less than what it is right now.

The authenticated price increase for my Jeep is just the latest example of this self-fulfilling prophecy.

just finished 7000 mile round trip to California and back. Glass had the very typically small chip at edge and crack into windshield. 4000 mile mark. took into dealer who was very vague and has to research first. 1 day later, picked up another rock strike about a nickel in size. will update if you wish on warranty. I paid 95 for it and not sure was worth even that. Once replaced, I am going to put a 1 in wide strip of auto repair tape (made ironically by Gorilla) around the black portion of window. Most crack pictures I have seen start from there. I think it is a brittle/edge issue and I think that the tape could provide a cushion and prevent cracks. Most likely wrong, but I got to do something. This is ridiculous.

on another note, driving the 4xe on such a long trip was great! power and acceleration is incredible and road handling for 18hr straight drives was good. vehicle tracked well and handles surprisingly responsive. Plus, the filling up once every 6 weeks on normal town driving is great (charge every day). I am estimating around $1500 fuel savings annually after deducting charging costs

FILLING UP EVERY 6 WEEKS?? With my 392 I pretty much have to fill it after 6 hours and that`s if I`m lucky enough to be going downhill
That is incredible and is truly a fuel stingy Jeep!

A) not trying to convert it to a Rubicon. I'm more looking at building it the way I want it vs what Fiat is willing to give me. And the less parts controlled by a computer the better, IMHO.
B) unlike some, I don't plan to go over 35" tires for the foreseeable future. So the XR package would pretty much suit me, especially on a sport s model.

but still a brick on long drives - we had high winds out west - 17-18 mpg during that time. With the small tank, actually had range anxiety on the thru the night drives on highways through arizona and utah. but seriously, Jeep did right with their programming. seamless transitions and smooth, instant acceleration as electric picks up first with the gas coming late to the party. really reduced downshifting for acceleration. As a 392 owner, you can also appreciate the on ramp surprise when the jeep moves so quickly into traffic - like 'bye bye'. but I know the 4xe is way slower than the 392, but it is quick enough to be fun. we get about 3-4 hours of in town running around on the charge, so a good match for our usage as 90% of our trips can be covered in electric only

I have driven a 4XE and it’s no joke, like you mentioned getting onto a highway or other fast moving traffic or just out having fun with it. Having the instant torque is what really makes the difference. The most experience I have with a electric vehicle is my friends ZERO Motorcycle and it is so strange at first. Just look at all of the electric bicycles that are out there and they are not cheap either
The only issue at least here in the burb`s of NJ there are not many charging stations for those who are all electric, my Jeep dealer has only one plug in station.
The way it looks, electric cars, trucks and Jeeps are really making progress and it looks like there is no stopping anytime soon
