Hi All,

Just got my Jscan, vlinker MC+ and programming cable.

First off, getting the plugs out that go in the programming cable was a bit of a pain in the ass. Do you all plug them back in once done or do you leave them out and tuck them away, or do you leave the programming cable connected and tie it out of the way? I prefer to have to avoid taking it out every time I want to use the vlinker/Jscan but if I need to then I will.

I bought a 2020 Rubicon that's lifted with 35s. The tires are not set properly. I think they are set for 33's but have 35s. So I'm going to change that later tonight and see what happens

The problem I see that I also have is that the gears get into 4-7 gears really fast. The intervals seem too short. Do you all think changing the tire size will fix the grear interval problem I'm facing? I was told there is a learning setting I can reset to factory but I don't want to somehow create another issue so wondering if that one is a good idea.

Welcome your advice

Yes.

Just set the tire size correctly and drive the vehicle. It will re-learn as you drive.

Yes.

Thanks! Do you know why it would be shifting to higher gears so early when it has 35's but expects 33's based on it's setting? Want to see how that makes sense to people. But I did just set the new tire size. Hasn't changed yet but I haven't driven it enough. You think I drive it a while like this before trying the reset onthe learning on Jscan?

Hello,

If you do not reconnect the cable the Uconnect head unit will not power on as the security gateway act as a firewall between Uconnect and the Canbus.

As for the transmission gear I would recommend to set the parameter properly AKA tire size and gearing, than perform a full reset, I would assume disconnect both battery for 5 minutes, and let it relearn.

IF, you just purchased your Chrysler 12+8 Programming Cable and can return it for full refund, I encourage you to do so.

There is a far better way to bypass then using an old school/dinosaur, Chrysler 12+8 Programming Cable that aren't that reliable, have big foot print, etc..

Buy yourself a dedicated security gateway bypass module. Smaller footprint and are reliable.

You can leave this security gateway bypass module installed and not have it dangling and being an eyesore. You can buy a plastic holder for it that allows mounting up an out of the way.

Interesting. how does this work? Are you plugging in the two cables that go in the bypass cable to here? But then, how do I connect my vlinker MC+? If you have those cables removed, does the normal port where I plug in the vlinker OBD2 still work?

Sorry for the questions

Thanks, would the reset function in the Jscan do the same thing? That seems easy to me vs messing with the battery. Just don't want to mess anything up

Vlinker MC+, your BT scan tool plugs into the OBDll port. The ECRI security gateway bypass module connects to the 2 cable you disconnected from the security gateway.

You can leave the ECRI module plugged in 24/7, 365. Just remember to remove the ECRI module and reconnect the 2 cables to the security gateway anytime your JL goes to the dealership service dept.

Because the tire size is incorrect is the simple answer.

If you can't drive it enough to re-learn on its own, then you can try the reset in JScan.

Leaving the bypass 24/7 does not open the door to lateral movement from Uconnect who is in turn internet enabled?

No.

Not sure what you mean by UConnect being "internet enabled".

Uconnect being it own entity on the internet, you know getting update, synch the jeep metric with your account or communicate with the jeep app ?

To the best of my knowledge, that's not technically being done over the Internet.

Over the air updates to Uconnect are done over a wireless cellular network, as are most (if not all) of the other functions.

I leave the cables plugged-in. Not the obd device.

For 35s, you’ll want to enter 34 as the diameter since 35s are rarely 35s and Jscan works with real world measurement, as it doesn’t care what the sidewall says. I use Jscan for tire size and gear ratio and all is perfect.
