Jscan Freezing - getting old

OBDII MX+ doesn't have BLE (Bluetooth 4.0) capability. It uses regular Bluetooth connection. You have to pair and connect it to your phone first using your phone's Bluetooth connection manager, and then select it in JScan.

I also had problems connection it at first. This is the answer! I have the OBD LINK MX+

Hey Thaw,
I have l power cycled (restarted) the phone many times , sometimes that will unfreeze jscan. I,ve unplugged and rebooted the obdmx+ adapter by holding the search button several times. Phone is an IPhone 15 pro

1. iPhone will always connect to obdmx+ via Bluetooth, but sometimes jscan will not connect when selecting an obdii connector. I’ve removed all obdii apps except Jscan and removed “potentially competing” blue tooth connections like uconnect. I still have headphones and such in the Bluetooth list but nothing connected except the obdmx+


2. I run a quick scan or advanced scan and clear codes and try another scan it usually will freeze or if I toggle back screens. I then try rebooting the iPhone and obdmx+ adapter

As most don’t seem to have these issues I’m leading towards the fault being with the obdmx+ adapter. FYI the issues are the same between our 2 jeeps.

So, it sounds like the 2nd scan is bugging out and breaking the connection?

Does the connection hold while monitoring LIVE DATA?

When you say restarted the Iphone, is it a hard restart or power off/power on. Hit up volume, then down volume, then hold power button until the apple icon shows up?

Full restart / reboot, it shows the apple logo on reboot

Another generic tech question/suggestion: have you updated the MX+ firmware lately?

I gave the app permission to do an update this week, I went in today to also do it manually but couldn’t find where that was

I could be wrong, but I believe the MX+ updates are manual only.

OBDLink app -> Settings -> Firmware Updates

Sorry I was referring to the Jscan app. Ok I’ll reinstall the OBDLink app I removed as was told it could compete with the blue tooth connection. It’s reinstalled and Firmware was currently up to date.

I connected via jscan and went to tire settings, measured the tire diameter, when I unlocked the phone screen the jscan app was frozen. Or so it seemed.

As long as the OBDLink app is force stopped (after the update) it should be totally fine to have it installed (I'm on Android, but leave the app installed).
