Maybe its a feature for people like that guy who won the darwin award for trying to check, look at, his driveshaft while driving his truck.

So what happen if ur moving at a good clip and need to open the door.....is it going to park itself at 40 plus mph and destroy the drivetrain?
Why would you need to open the door if you are moving at a good clip ? Why not take off all the doors in the first place ? No doors on a Jeep is perfect !

The Jeep engineers are smarter than that or so they claim.

“If the vehicle is not in PARK and the driver exits the vehicle with the engine running, the vehicle may Au- toPark.
AutoPark will engage when all of these conditions are met:
• Vehicle is equipped with an 8-speed transmission
• Drivers door is ajar or in conditions where driver door is removed an aditional trigger would be if the driver is off the seat (seat pad sensor detects driver missing).
• Vehicle is not in PARK
• Driver’s door is removed
• Vehicle speed is 1.2 MPH (2.0 km/h) or less
• Driver’s seat belt is unbuckled
• Driver’s door is ajar
• Brake Pedal is not depressed

No and you could easily read the users manual to find out more about it. It won't engage above a set speed.
