Hey gang, I shifted my 22 High Altitude w/ 6300mi into 4H recently after the snowstorm we had in the Midwest. Since shifting back to 2H, it shakes quite violently at highway speeds (60-80mph). I’ve tried going back into 4H and immediately back to 2H and giving it a second before moving and nothing’s changed. Any advice?

Just a guess, Maybe youre not fully disengaged out of 4H and your front driveshaft is still spinning. You really shouldnt be going over 50 in 4H.

At what speed were you traveling when you originally shifted into 4H? The maximum is 45 mph

Did you go thru deep snow or slush, got ice or snow still stuck in your wheels, that'll do it!!

I've had Jeeps for years, speeds over 60 in 4 HI never a problem...maybe dangerous or dumb but never a mechanical problem!

Go Jeep!!!

I'm betting snow in the wheels! the 4wd system is pretty stout and simple.

Yep, never done it with snow, but mud will certainly cause this.

Check and see if you have any kind of ice build-up on the front driveshaft. I had that happen a few times on my old 1976 F250. You get a bad vibration if anything is off balance at all.

I've used 4 hi at 60-65 with no issues. I always shift in and out on the fly though and never above 50. You only need to stop to put it in 4 low.

As stated likely ice. IF the issue continues, check to insure you’ve not thrown a wheel weight. If that doesn’t resolve it, ck the tires, you may have thrown a belt in a tire (it WILL shake very hard if this occurs.)

I'm with you.

My Jeep has SelecTrac (4wd Auto) and I run it at highway speeds all the time. The axle is the same (other than the CVJs). It should not shake.

Snow/Ice/Mud inside a wheel will make things miserable at highway speeds.
