Hey guys just got my 2019 JLU Sahara in stick. I want to run 37" tires on it and was wondering what are your views on regearing and if is necessary.

A 37” tire is pretty big, however, I can tell you from what I’ve read so far on here that there are members running them without regearing and say that while it is slightly sluggish it’s not bothersome.

My take, if I get 37” tire (which I will eventually) I will be regearing. You didn’t mention a lift but you will need one running 37” tire Rubi or not especially the latter. If you have the money I would do it but I’m no expert either.

Congrats on the new Jeep! Welcome to the family!

I looked at this for my Sahara however it was just not a good match or investment especially considering the lighter weight Dana 33 axles (compared to the Dana 44 of the Rubicon). The weight of the 37s the need to re-gear (then why wast those $$$ on the Dana 33), now if you were to say pick up a set of Dana 40' series axles it would make more sense. While some are doing 37's on the sports and Sahara's it is not a practical combination. IMO if you really want to run 37's or higher then buy the Rubicon with the Dana 44 and Lockers...

Just my 2-cents as I looked at the same senario. I am not sure if I have ween the answer to if 37's would void the Jeep warranty on the running gear?

I never got this far before I bailed on the idea however I have the limited slip diff, if you have that it could complicate things even more)

if he has the LSD then he’s got Dana 44HD Rear and Dana 30 in the front. I think with the 44 in the rear he would be fine but I would def regear.

You brought up a good point though about regearing and warranty, albeit I’m not sure how a dealership would even know.

I’m like you though I bailed on it because I’d have to do a lift which I don’t want to do just yet. I just went 33’s for now until the tires run out of tread.

I have the LSD, I thought it was a 30 series, thanks for that info. The way I see it if you are going 37's go all the way because as a cosmetic upgrade it maybe be nice to look at but in terms of serious off-road action it is limited.

My point was any running gear warranty issue could be critiqued by the addition of 37's. I know when I did not buy the bumper to bumper extended warranty they tried to scare me about doing anything aftermarket with the standard Mopar warranty. However I do have a aftermarket lifetime powertrain warranty that was included in my purchase. While I did go to 35's that is a vary common upgrade however 37's on a Sport or Sahara is the exception and not the rule and there is no question that the 37's will stress the powertrain at least to some degree.

Hey no problem man! Yeah the ‘Anti-slip’ / ‘LSD’ upgrade actually upgrades (2) things when you opted for it.

1. It upgraded your rear axle to the new Dana 44HD (it’s on your build sheet if you look)

2. You got A/T tires

:)

there is a place that me that specifies in jeep lifts so I wanted to see everyones two cents on whether its worth it to wait and save an extra $2,200 or dont regear. what the guy from the place said was if I did not Care about bad gas milage then regearing doesn't need to happen which I thought was odd. so I wanted to see how people who are more experienced with this type of stuff feel about it.

Soooo basically you have no experience on the subject? Only what youve read on forums?

5.18’s? Do they even make that ratio for the Sahara D35 yet?
From what the estimate sheet said the part is Dana Spicer JL 5.13 rear 220MM Advantek D44 and Dana Spicer 3rd GEN Dana 186MM Front Ring and Pinion 5.13. so 5.13 not 5.18 my fault.

You guys need to do more research . Im reading Dana 33’s and Dana 40’s on this thread doesnt even exist. The carrier on a dana 30 is very small and is “stronger” over JK but its not a great idea to be running 37 inch tires on a 30... unless all youre doing is highway driving . But if thats the case why even bother with all the other modifications youd need to do to make 37’s drive properly on a sahara?

The place I would have the work done said they would regear 5.18
There are Rubicon owners that are upgrading to Dana 60 series axles and you will see more and more used Dana 44 take offs for sale as time passes. It might be better money spent to pickup a Dana 44 take off and then go to 37's then you can really put those 37's to work...
