I have a friend that works with a news station in San Antonio and they want to cut this story. He's also a jeep enthusiast and isn't happy with the way it was handled so he wants to put it out there. @JeepCares.
What did jeep cares say?

I'll start by saying I know nothing about welding. Is it possible to have someone go over the factory welds? would this make them stronger? how much of a pain in the ass would that be?
I too am wodering the same thing. If it's doable and if my Jeep exhibit the same issue when I receive it, I am wondering if I could just bring it to a body shop, have them patch it and paint over the fixes.

I don't know anything about welding, so that may be a stupid idea and possibly expensive?

Respectfully, your wife knows enough about welds to determine their safety? She "won't let me drive my kids in it"? You've got an interesting leadership structure in your home.
Hey listen don't go busting the guys balls, I make pretty much every decision in the house but when it comes to the kids health or safety , the wife stands strong on her choice and there is nothing I can do.

Real cool flyairarm. Luckily I am fortunate enough that this is the 3rd car in my collection so I don't depend on it daily like you may. Also, don't start a sentence with "respectfully" and then follow with some ignorant comment. It's in bad taste. I am also sorry that my wife cares for our family until I get a better answer on the situation.

this might be an option but one you shouldn't have to perform. what happens when a frame component fails? Who gets the blame...FCA or the body shop?

Thank goodness for this forum! I'm learning what to look for when inspecting a new JL on the lot. the salesman will think I'm crazy when I say "hold on a minute. let me get my creeper and flashlight. get back to me in a few hours while I inspect this Jeep".

All true. It's not something I would want to do, but at the same time I wouldn't want to cancel my order and wait another few months for the chance to get one right. I'm not there yet, both the engine and the colour ensure my build will take forever to be completed, but I am just trying to weigh my options.

You can already guess that if the welds fail it will be chalked up to "owner abuse."

Not necessarily. Your Jeep could be built next week then put in storage for 3-4 months waiting for color hard top, soft top, and the other little things. It is happening to so many people that I feel it has to be contributing to the rust we’re seeing.

Hello everyone,
Please feel free to send us a PM if you are working with your dealer on this. We would like to hear more about your concern.

I’ll attest that if you are concerned then start a star case with jeep wave. They set up appointments with dealer, help you through process of getting everything solved.
Before I go ranting on the forum I just call my rep (Ashley) and they’ve handled any small issue I have immediately.
Needed a fender replaced, they expedited the part. Any concern they are on top of it

From the “Issues Compilation” thread
Not sure if this is the correct Thread, but on vacation in Arizona and stopped at Larry Miller Jeep in Surprise; found this JL on back lot. Dealer won't discuss (been at this dealer before and always found them to be less than helpful):

I have a sneaking suspicion the welds are the bigger problem causing all this mess of delays and such.
