Yeah, but when it comes to local data storage, many OEM navigation systems and platforms still share the same map source "files."
That seems unlikely. It's a whole new system that's now Android based.

Just had to add my 2 cents. I like the built in NAV. I do switch between Google/Carplay and built in NAV depending on the trip. The built in NAV has a few features I like:
1. Bottom of screen shows current road and city. I like to know the city I am in a lot, call me weird.
2. On the Highway you get the upcoming exits panel. Nice when fuel is starting to run short and want to plan a stop for food and gas.

Also built in nav seems to be tailored for driving, turn coming up, ping/beep at turn. Google will tell you its coming up and then stay silent, and it seems refresh a bit slower, sometimes I miss a turn if I cant see the street sign.

I use Google when the address is already in my phone, and its quick to click and go; but if you asked for my preference, its the built in Nav still.

I have a 2018, I did update the maps I think 2021-ish. $99 was worth it. Not sure I will update again, might replace the head unit in the next year or so.

I'm not talking about the navigation software, but the map data itself. A lot of manufacturers offer and sell their updates through a company called Here. The UConnect 5 may be completely different, though, but I'm still not holding out on any OEM unit ever having the latest maps.

When my 2018 was brand new, it was still missing newer streets built in my city several years earlier.

It's completely possible for Uconnect's navigation system to get frequent / automatic / free updates, but it's a potential revenue stream for Stellantis if they charge for periodic updates. Unfortunately they can either provide a better user experience or they can try to make more money from us.

I think it's supposed to have traffic. Not sure if I've failed to enable it, or it's actually missing.

Doesn't seem to have construction (and the speed limits are utterly fictional, at least for the GTA where it's consistently wrong on speed limits). Of course that's for Canada, data may be better in the US.

It's got really good red light/speed camera data though.
The traffic data comes from the SiriusXM traffic subscription. Off the top of my head I think the Jeep comes with a 5 year traffic plan. Mine shows traffic data, Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

I'll have to check out what I have enabled. I'm wondering if it has to do with not wifi pairing the deck to my phone (since I didn't buy the LTE Hotspot subscription)

I don't have the WIFI either. Tomorrow I'll check the traffic on my way to work, I go through several areas under construction. I will report back.
