That maybe true but if they don't they are in the wrong business.
Why?

How does responding "I've never heard of any issues" hurt them?

As sales people, as long as you sign on the dotted line, they are doing their job.

It's the same reason most of them don't keep up on new features or other Jeep info and say things like "You know more about these vehicles than I do."

It doesn't affect their job; they're there to sell, and if it wasn't Jeeps it would be Toyotas or Fords or whatever the dealership down the street offers if they pay a higher commission rate.

Again that all may be true. And that's they're car salesman. Same with marketing folks, lie right at you with a smile on their face.

A buddy of mine had his Jeep totaled because of the galvanic corrosion.

Was at the dealer the other day and was talking to the “resident Jeep sales expert” who also owned one personally. Asked which model and he replied JK. Asked him if he was aware of any problems with the JL. He said he was aware of none. Hmm?

Asked if he had heard of any recalls or TSBs like on the damper or steering box or corrosion or LSD axles. He said he has heard nothing. His Service Dept is 50 feet from his desk. So either this “expert” is clueless or willfully ignorant or turns off hearing to his ears or simply just does not want to know - do not expect any good pertinent info from sales staff.

They are there to sell vehicles and that is it. From their perspective the less they are informed of problems or issues the better.

Anyways left there with some good info as also had a chat with the Owner who happened to be wandering about. Gave his projected sales insight on the EcoD, 4xe, and 392.

Yes ours also had the hood repainted due to hinge corrosion. Was told by the bodyshop that owners are the big losers as once out of warranty - too bad pay up. All about money not durability or owner satisfaction. It is what it is unfortunately with Fiat FCA.

Many sales people are indeed clueless - they are not lying because they’ve typically only been working at the dealership for two months. An experienced sales person will typically admit to problems on earlier models but then state the problem has been resolved in recent builds since they have not yet seen the problem. I am very concerned this problem will show up eventually in most of our JLs. I’m not big on class action lawsuits but this matter will likely be resolved in such a way. Loss of value is a real cost on repainted vehicles and FCA needs to be held accountable for this fact if the problem is widespread.

And I'll say this... I worked for an OEM paint supplier for 35 years. I'd bet my Willys the paint company, along with the pre-treatment supplier have already told Fiat they will not be held responsible for any claims what so ever.

Not after the warranty expires. Then we are all S.O.L.. This is going to be a long term problem, with every JL, that is exposed to water. The fix needs to be done correctly, at every hinge on the vehicle.

.
There is no fix repainting doesn’t offer a permanent solution. It will return.

To start I really like my Jeep, I think the engineers have done a great job. What surprised me was all the corrosion that is showing up where the hinges mount. All except 2 hinges have bubbling paint on the panel they are bolted to. I removed 1 hinge to find the door is not painted under them.
Obviously this was to speed up the assembly process.
Now I am fighting with FCA to get the paint fixed. The dealerships don't want to help because I'm over 60,000 km , I'm at 76,000 in 2.5 years.

It seems like some have no clue about the corrosion issue. Time will show making fun of someone warning of the corrosion on how ignorant folks are.
