Paint Corrosion

I don't believe '21s have the new hinges. I have an Oct '21 build and don't. The TSB was released in 2/23 so I'm pretty sure they cut in the new hinges around that time frame. I would say late '22 at the earliest.

Mine is a late 21 and has the barrier between the hinge and the body panels.

How did you confirm that? The new hinges have a slightly different shape.
Did you compare yours to a pic of the new style hinge or remove it to check for the zinc shim?

I looked at my jeep. it has the shim. lol.

There was an intermediate redesign of the hinge that looks like it has the shim because it has a sculpted edge, but does not have the shim. You can't tell by just looking, you have to remove the hinge to see if it has the shim.

Here's the back of a new hinge where you can see the sculpted edge around the perimeter of the hinge and the outline of the shim. You can't tell by just looking if your hinge has the shim or not.

Yeah, my '21 looks like it has a shim behind it too.
I compared it to a pic of the new hinges and I still have the old hinges. The new hinge part #'s were in the TSB dated 2/23. You have the old hinges.

Sounds like after 2021 they fixed it but even then there are those who have the problem.

Thanks so much for the reply! If I purchase the '21 from a Volkswagen dealership do you think I will still be covered under the 5 year replacement warranty from Jeep?

Yes but you will need to have it addressed at a Jeep dealer, not a Nazi dealer.

Indeed! Thank you for the reply! I've always built from the ground up (6 Wranglers) but now we need a new roof/AC etc. So, I'm very picky and having to look beyond CDJR dealers. Ugh. My '08 was just totaled in March in a hit-and-run. I'm still devastated

. The current warranty policy is to replace the doors not repaint, especially with corrosion at the bottom of the door. Too many reoccurrence issues with repainting

Do you have a TSB that states this? The TSB later in this thread is the only one I know of and it talks about repainting or re-skinning the door. No where does it say they simply replace the door.

Re-skinning is essentially replacing the door. Semantics.

Hi i have 2020 wrangler and 43400 miles on it . I tried to find a dealer can do repair or what so ever . Im at north New Jerseys, i tried couple of dealers but no luck . They all denied to work with paint corrosion of my door .
Anyone got ideas which dealer should i go ?
