quick update re: the Suntop.

yesterday morning they sent me an invoice, which I paid via paypal, and this morning I just got the shipping confirmation - it is apparently due to get here to Chicago by early next week. I'll be putting it on later next week and report back with some photos and thoughts probably next weekend. really excited

awesome, can't wait to see it on something other than a show vehicle! I'm going to have to wait for a month or 2, I have registration, and insurance deductible to pay for..... long story 1st accident in over 20 years and it had to be in my 10 day old JLUR, damn Denver roads! Luckily I have a few parts sitting in the garage to install after it gets back from the Body shop to curb the mod bug and We're still getting snow here in CO so the hardtop would probably stay on for a bit anyway.

They have that for the JLU. I purchased and returned. Didn't like. Flapped way too much and if there was even the slightest rain it would leak the way it is attached with zipper in front, left gap at doors too.

Had they made it one inch wider on the sides and found a different way to hook to windshield, it would have been better.

No mount rail. Where the four bolts attach the top of the windshield to the frame a piece of vinyl attaches and has zipper along one edge. You can see zipper in my images.

See here for part number and link to Mopar site. Mopar Sun Bonnet Soft Top

Just finished installing the top. I took my time, and it was about 3 hours total. If I were to do it again and had an extra set of hands for a couple quick parts, I could prob do it in an hour.

A few quick impressions.

- fabric quality is excellent. It’s a dark black, but more of a birds eye weave than the premium twill.
- fit is quite good. It took a little bit of elbow grease in my 60 degree garage, which is expected with a brand new soft top
- directions provided were decent. The cargo top is the simpler thing to install, but the directions weren’t as good, and it probably took almost the same time
- I love the look. It’s exactly what I hoped for
- I’m guessing you could roll up the top in about 1.5 minutes. You just instrap the back, untuck the plastic insert on both sides, and roll it up. It will be super quick

I’ll post driving impressions tomorrow.

haven't taken the top off yet, but it will be extremely quick and easy. no doubt about that. I will say though after letting the top sit in the sun for 15 minutes, I was able to tighten up the top better to get rid of any wrinkles that were on the passenger side near the rear on the vertical piece.

I also haven't taken it up past 50mph, so I can't confirm there's no flapping (although that would shock me if there were any since the bar that goes across the top in the back is steel and probably weights 20 lbs), but I can tell you that up to those speeds, it's just a touch louder than the hard top.

Thanks for giving us the info. Top looks good, and glad to hear it rides well too. How does the top attach to the sides of the Jeep? Were there rails to install above the doors or on the rollcage?

there are rails that go around the door frame from the windshield back and then down to the cargo area (picture an L shape). for the part above the window, there is a channel that you slide a plastic piece into (just like the way the OE soft windows slot into the cargo area (and same way the TJ top worked above the doors, if you remember that).

for the vertical piece, the window goes around the frame and then velcros onto itself, if you know what I mean. their youtube videos give a good idea of how it all works. it's all very simple
