I was on there back in 2009 quite a bit, but I must admit, I've used this forum almost exclusively while we've had our 2020 JLUR.

But is that place really as dead as it seems?

What happened?

Many forums have died off due to the popularity of Facebook groups. Unfortunately those groups are hardly moderated and in turn attract the most toxic, idiotic, man-boy keyboard warriors and trolls you will find.

A bunch of old forums got purchased by one company and that company ran them into the ground. Replaced the admins, added intrusive ads, etc. I was heavily involved with wranglerforum and watched the decline.
I was on there a lot for years. Right around the time that the JL was about to come out it seemed to slow.

I joined wranglerforums.com when I got my first JK in 2009. I am still pretty active in the JL forums.

As JKs are now all “used” vehicles, the nature of the discussion has evolved from ordering, buying, and modding, to repairs, maintenance and advise on buying a vehicle with 100,000+ miles.

The demographics of JL owners is quite different, too; there’s now more affluent, first-time Jeep buyers, and it appears more women, than before. There seem to be fewer posts about wheeling and off-roading.

I find people tend to frequent the forum for the generation of their Jeep and stick to it. It becomes like a learned habit.

Are these the same people you find at an off road event that won't even talk to you if you don't have a Jeep with 40's or want to talk about your 35s Oh man but I have 36's oh man I got the 37s Oh I got the 38s oh my lift is 2" oh my lift is 2.25" oh i got the 40's oh I got the 36s.

It's like you can't have a conversation unless it only involves wheel size and lift size and they make you feel uncomfortable by even standing in the circle with them. I thought that of ALL Wrangler owners until I met some cool guys in Idaho through overlandbound.com who invited me to go off roading with them while I had a Subaru Outback.

I was an administrator on two forums that were bought by one company (and we may be talking about the same company) and watched them both die. Once I saw the decline start I decided to leave both of them.
