How much does it end up costing you to rent one for a week?
It’s typically about $1,200+/- for the week. Given it’s an almost new $18K bike and I put some serious wear on the tires I think it reasonable. Not counting airfare, as I’m usually combining the trip with business, it costs me about $3,000 to 3,500, including gas, lodging, food and drink. This year we rode in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Slovenia. We stay at mostly family owned hotels, typically 3 or 4 Star. The weather gods were particularly kind to us this year. I don’t see too many Wranglers in the Alps, at least not during the summer season :)

Out of curiosity, what’s the significance of 1959? Is it the year you were born or joined the Navy? I was born in 1956, for what ever that’s worth :)

I wave but then again I smile and say hello to strangers if they make eye contact while walking through life. It can really mess with peoples’ heads. I may not take mine off road, but that doesn’t mean I don’t believe in the Jeep ideal and lifestyle. My “off-roads” have just been on or under the water kayaking or scuba diving. We have a similar “trail” philosophy of “take only pictures, leave only bubbles”.

Edited:: On a 4 hour road trip and just got a double wave from both driver snd passenger. Lol. Nothing like a Mojito! To bring out the best.

Well, now I have to ask if you are in Minnesota. My aunt and uncle moved there quite a while back, and when my family went to visit shortly after, there were people constantly saying hello in every store. I commented that they had met a lot of people in the short time that they had lived there, and my aunt said, "no, they just do that here. It really freaked me out at first."

So, I got my Jeep last Friday. On Sunday I parked a few spots down from an older NO as he got out. As I got out, he said, "Welcome to the family." Another guy walked by at the same time and said, "Nice ride!" Today, I was turning left and a guy in a naked TJ gave me a wave, I don't think he could see me through my tint, but he waved all the same. Did I mention it was 115 today, guy is dedicated. In a world where everyone stares at their phone all day, it seems there are plenty of good jeep folks out there who still know how to connect with real people.

I rent from a BMW dealer in Erding (outside of Munch). The dealer name is Karl Maier, BMW, he gets a new fleet of rental BMW’s every year. I rented a 2018 R1200R this year, we ride typically the 3rd week of June, before the vacation season hits high gear.
Ahhh mann...Munich was nice when i went in 2011! I miss that place! My guide when i was there is a good friend of mine (German) and he rides a lot there as well (he lives in Lindau now), on and offroad (Aprillia and KTM bikes)...I'll have to ask him about his experience and waving when he rides.

Awh, come on... You don't expect them to wave while texting and doing their makeup while driving, do you? :)

Just got back from a month in the UK and Ireland and apparently the doing makeup while driving is not just a US thing... :(

It must be a location thing. I am in upstate SC and I *may* get 1 or 2 waves back out of 15 or so. It's so frustrating. I'm over here trying to be all friendly and whatnot.. Ha! Oh well, it won't stop me from continuing to wave!
I think you’re right. I’m reading this thread wondering “where do these people live??” (The ones not getting waves back) I live in a small, kind of rural feeling, suburb of Detroit, about a mile from a Jeep dealer “Jeep country” lol. I see LOTS of Grand Cherokees...Wranglers, not so much. But venture outward and that’s when the fun begins. Last week in one approximately 5 mile stretch I saw a TON of Wranglers...stopped counting at 15. I’d say 90% waved, about 1/2 and 1/2 as to who initiated. Yeah I’m a girl but I’d say about a third of the wavers were women. Maybe Michigan is just a super friendly place?

I went to California (SoCal) for thanksgiving and did not the Jeep Wave ratio was a lot lower than in AZ. In AZ I definitely get a 90% or higher Jeep Wave, in California, it was under 10% for sure.

I don't doubt it. Forget about waving, most people here don't even know how to drive so I guess it's better they keep both hands on the steering wheel! I still wave to all Wranglers though.

Most JL owners are either fighting a death wobble, or fiddling non-responsive touchbscreen, or watching out anything fly towards their paper-thin windshield. They do not have the luxury to wave.
