I think back in the day people waved because it wasn't often you seen another Jeep. Now you pass a couple every time your driving. My wife's car is not a Jeep and I catch myself wanting to wave in her car.
This. Texas is Jeep central. I get a ton of waves, but I get my hand slapped in the wife’s car. She just faces forward and says “CRV” under her breath to shame me.

now if only I could get legislators to change the North South Parkway that lies immediately West of the North South "Hutch" (the Bronx River Parkway) to be called the "Starsky.";)

Wait, maybe that one needs setup too.;)

No set up needed. Lol. My only desire to drive on the Hutch is the US OPEN and the Bronx Zoo. Those roads are absolutely crazy. The one good thing is everyone is on the same page as crazy and it all works. Except when coming home at night and they close from 3 lanes to 1. But why not a little more drama other than Serena

Sorry, I only wave at Rubicons. Sports aren't worthy

The other person probably has no clue about the wave. Jeep has brought in a lot of new customers and many are probably not well versed in the history of all things Jeep like those here on the forums
So let it be written, so let it be done! ;)

Zoning out and not returning a wave, waving from the wife's non-wrangler - I'm glad I'm not the only person that does these things.

I live in the North Philly burbs and the waves are 50/50 here, but my kids live in the sticks and the waves are almost 80 to 90 percent up there.

My ex had a JKU and I couldn't figure out who she was always waving to when we'd go somewhere. It wasn't until I got a TJ last year that she finally told me it. I've always had a motorcycle so I was surprised to hear it wasn't just bikes who waved to each other. Around here in Omaha, I'd say the return rate is about 60%-70%. Coming from a small town where everyone everyone waves, waving is just second nature anyways. TJ's seem to wave more than JK's, and JK's more than JL's.

No apologies required @VolCntry73 Tim. From what I can glean, as a tried and true NYer, it is, sadly (I say for my locale) something with a regional component associated with it.

I wave. I mean in warmer weather I'm apt to throw out and initiate a visible peace sign through the driver's side window so it's not like it's not visible. Rarely do I get one back..and that's okay...it's a treat when I do. Nobody forces me to do it, I don't consider reciprocity a requirement.

But I do believe, based on other posts I've read here that--how can I say this and still be politically correct, people are just more manners oriented in Tennessee that downstate NY.

That comment is painted in broad strokes. There are many nice people by me, and I am sure, just like in any population center, some bad apples in Tennessee.

Maybe people by me are too worried about crime, maybe people by you are more indoctrinated with faith and kindness going part in parcel with each other.

I just don't know.
I get/give the wave occasionally in the city but it’s deinitey more common out east or in the suburbs with less distractions. It’s a nice gesture to do. Riders do the same to acknowledge each other.

MTA bus drivers too

I would say around here in Ga, it is prob 90% wave...even if I don't wave first. Keeps the commute fun, and my kids think it is the greatest thing ever. (now we laugh at them, because they have a tendency to wave at everyone no matter what we are driving) but that is ok too.

Something that sounds technical, but it's not.
I'm hitting about 50% here in Southern Alabama. I will say that I get less waves back from bone-stock Jeeps than ones that have been modified. I want to make business cards that express the need for people to Jeep wave to avoid sugar in their tanks! lol

Yep, we've been here since '89 (Navy) and it has had a definite downward trend. It's not all bad though... all the fruits and nuts you can eat and the weather's nice.:)
I lived there in the mid 80's to early '91. My stepdad was in the Navy as well and my dad lived in Santa Barbara. I liked it but was just a kid in elementary school.

Who cares if you get a wave back or not...I mean really? I wave but dont look to see if I got a return wave WhoTF cares? . lol

I get it that some probably dont (not that I would know) and for good reasons.

They're newbie mall cruising posers who thought it would be fun to get a jeep and think a jeep wave is probably at the beach. Nothing wrong with that. ;)

Maybe they just didnt see you. duh! lol or maybe forgot they are in a jeep.

How bout there are just so many of these freaking things on the road now it gets stupid after a while. ;)

Probably way more.. Yeah I wave, dont look for returns, I also wave at bikers, guys who have the same company car as me, also when I run a red light or stop sign while being flipped the bird, or speeding while seeing a cop. lol

I do a lot of waving.
