The JL is so popular I practically just drive with my fingers up. It didnt used to be like this when I had a TJ and the JKs were new at the time.

JL outsold Camrys some months of their production.

As a soon god knows when (170+ days so far) to be jeep owner , how exactly is a jeep wave?

1. Beauty pageant wave?
2. Seeing you for the first time in a long time at the airport wave?
3. Sport event wave?
4. Jump in the middle of the street flag someone down wave?

I want to make sure I practice my wave before I take delivery of my Jeep.
Practice whatever makes you comfortable. There is no right or wrong way, unless it's something obscene. But I hear using the OK sign is now taboo. Just nonsense. That really now makes me want to use it almost exclusively.

However, being a Marine vet I will continue to honor the tradition of how the Jeep wave started. Back in WWII with the introduction of the Willys MB in 1941, service personnel of all branches of American and Allied forces would 'salute' each other in passing using the victory 'V' sign. This was a fairly spontaneous and informal gesture born of mutual respect to a common goal.

Today, the reason has changed to (pick one):
• tradition
• kindred spirit
• respect
• fun
• just because others do it
• all or any of the above

So pick your reason and give it a whirl. It is certainly way cool to be a part of a vehicle ownership community that recognizes each other kind of like the soldiers did, regardless of why.

Hell, sometimes I've waved like Forrest Gump to Lieutenant Dan. I especially enjoy when the other Jeeper beats me to it.

We're all in this together. So whether you wave or not, it's something grounded in a lot of history, pride, perseverance and sacrifice.

TJs never wave. I have also never had a wave returned from a female driving a JL, neither 2 door or 4 door. I drive a Rubicon and usually initiate a wave unless I am distracted or in the middle of a shift (manual trans) while turning. However, I do not wave at angry grills. YMMV.

Depends on how bad your steering is and if you expect death wobble (nobody expects the spa... err death wobble).

Some scenarios require both hands on the wheel and a firm grip, so waving isn't an option.

Other scenarios mean you're free to steer with your knees, lean out of the window (assuming the door is attached) and high five the other Jeeper as they pass. But, this is a highly advanced Jeep Bro maneuver, and should only be attempted at high speeds while cornering on a blind hill!

Normally, just lift a hand and look as cool as possible... which isn't hard. I mean, you're already in a Jeep so... ?

So there I was, Saturday morning on my way to Lowes, windows down rockin out to Lithium on Sirius XM when I saw a sweet Hydro Blue JLU Rubicon with XR with the top down.

I extend my thumb and two fingers to acknowledge his sweet rig and what does he do....................looks me dead in the eyes as he drives by and slow shakes his head.

What a Dick!

In fairness, I had forgotten that I was dirving my wifes Pacifica and not my Willys but still a dick move.
Dicks are born and remain a dick until turned into a carbon unit by capt Kirks phaser.

When driving my TJ, I ALWAYS wave, whether waving back or initiating the wave. If my wife is driving either the TJ or Willys, she too will return a wave (might not initiate it). :jk: Maybe it's just where you live. Never had an issue with TJ's returning a wave either...that's SE PA for you.

Not being sexist or anything, but I've also noticed that not many women wave back - though some do, and then I'm all hot and bothered for the rest of the day (joking!)

Had 3 out of 3 waves on the way to work today, and one of them was from a rural mailman in a LHD Wrangler. Dude likely has a lot of shit going on with traffic and everything, but always initiates a friendly wave.

But I hear using the OK sign is now taboo. Just nonsense. That really now makes me want to use it almost exclusively.
But what if it's a juvenile 2-handed poking gesture? ??

?

Got some waves this last weekend coming up, down and while in Big Bear. The first 59 waves were nice and I acknowledged by waving back. Once we hit 60, that was just over-the-top madness and I was done.

This thread made me chuckle. Up in my area of VA/MD/DC I have noticed a lot of the women do not wave. It's so weird because in other areas I've had no issues.

It does piss me off too when they see you waving and don't return it.

I also wave at Jeeps in the dark ?
This happened to me just last night on a midnight munchies run to Taco Heck. Saw one pull up to a stop light opposite me. Both of us were blinding each other with our LED headlights, but I still found myself waving ?

Since it's gotten cold, I've stopped doing it.
