It definitely is not for everyone. The reasons I did it:Please explain to me like I am stupid... What's with the tinted windshields? Here in CT it is popular and I am seeing more and more vehicles with it. I have my front doors tinted but just think a tinted windshield is asking for trouble, plus, how the heck do you see at night?
- Security. I have several thousands of dollars worth of goodies within the Jeep at any given time. Most of it is securely locked up .... but things like my dash cams, radar detector, IFAK, Yaesu amateur radio, sunglasses, spare magazines, etc. remain in what would be "plain view". The less a potential thief knows/sees, the better. (Pics for reference)
- Privacy. I don't want people to watch me pick my lady's nose at stoplights.
- Comfort. I no longer get FLASHBANGED by other drivers' headlights at night. You know the ones.
- Much improved temperature regulation. (Ceramic tint)
"Nothing is more important than to look cool."

To answer your questions.
- I can see at night perfectly fine. Though everyone's eyes are different, do what makes the most sense for you.
- Asking for trouble ... in a law sense? I've never been bothered about it anywhere in the US or Canada. I'm not surprised you're noticing more of them. I'd say at least 1 in 5 vehicles on the road are heavily tinted.
My ceramic tint:
30% windshield
5% front two windows
20% on all rear windows (20% OEM + 20% Ceramic = 5% light transmission)
