This has happened to me four times now. Every time from a cold start and when in 1st gear. I'll shift into 1st from neutral and when I take my foot off the clutch the Jeep GOES. The first two times I thought maybe I hit the gas by accident some how but I knew I didn't. The next two times I was very aware of my foot positioning both feet were not touching any pedals and the Jeep accelerated rapidly. The last time was at the end of my driveway and it almost launched me into a very busy line of fast moving traffic. Touching the clutch at all immediately fixes the issue then it's fine for the rest of the day.

I have researched this issue but only see people saying they have an issue when braking and the Jeep surges. Definitely not the same issue I am having.

Has anyone else heard of this?

not sure im experiencing the same... but when I start mine... if I don't let it idle for a full minute... the engine surges to 2500-3000 RPM... so the car tend to launch forward. never had this issue in any of my manuals, my last two JKs... not sure if its norma for the 3.6 or I need to take it in

I am experiencing the same issue! It is only when the Jeep is running cold and it doesn't last long but even with my foot on the brake pressing lightly, the Jeep continues to "surge" in a forward direction. I have emailed my dealership to see if they have run into this as well.

Just as a point of reference, I know a guy at work with a manual JL 3.6 and he reports the same thing on cold starts. He says it's so bad that he won't let anyone else in his family drive it.

It's mostly an emissions thing. The warmup cycle is quite aggressive to get the cat up to temp and the oil circulating. In an automatic, as long as you give it a few seconds, it will interrupt it as soon as you put it in gear... not so much with a manual; it's not dropping below 1500RPM before it's good and ready.

The solution is to just... wait a minute for it to warm up and drop to a steady idle. Which you really should be doing anyway, for the longevity of your engine.

I predicted it while leaving work at lunch today. I had a clean shot forward so I put it in first let the clutch go and it went to 2.5k instantly and I hit 25PMH before taping the clutch to make it stop.

Try disabling the aux battery. If that doesnt work, replace the steering stabilizer. Finally, push down all the fuses and relays. That is all assuming you use amsoil, if not, you are out of luck.

I've noticed the same thing in the winter, but not so much now that it is warmer. When I start the Jeep, it typically idles around 1500. I try to wait until the idle drops to 1000 and I'm seeing some progress on the temp gauge before driving when it is cold out. Then I don't have that issue.

I’ve been noticing this as well on my new 2025 sport. It only seems to happen as I’m leaving the work parking lot. Jeep sits there for at least 8 hrs, when I leave I put it in first gear, let off the clutch and give a little gas to turn right out of my parking spot. As I take my foot off the gas out even before, the jeep begins surging ahead on its own! I have to press the clutch in to stop it and then…it’s totally fine the rest of the drive.
It ONLY seems to happen when I’m leaving work. Although I’m pulling out of the parking spot in first while when I leave in the morning I back out of the driveway. But temperature doesn’t seem to affect it. Seems to happen whether it’s 80° or 65°. I did park on the other side of the parking lot and noticed that it didn’t seem to happen which is very strange.
Has anyone found any answers to this yet?
